Gam of ThronesWe won't spoil anything for you here, but Episode 5 of "Game of Thrones," "The Wolf and the Lion," basically body-slammed all other trending topics in the feed last night. Jon Favreau called for Peter Dinklage to receive an Emmy. Ed Brubaker dropped an f-bomb, and Antony Johnston didn't even need to watch the episode to know what everyone was tweeting about.

The tweet recap below includes their shock, as well as some approval for Neil Gaiman's "Doctor Who" episode, piracy frustration, and a tweet about the Space Shuttle Endeavor's launch that sounds a little dubious. You be the judge after the jump.

SupermanWith the popularity of comic book movies at an all-time high, the absence of Krypton’s last son from summer lineups seems especially conspicuous, given talk that lesser-known characters like Dr. Strange and Shang Chi are being discussed for their own movies. This is Superman, after all — one of the most popular comic book characters of all time and the owner of the best spit-lick in town...

However, although the ball was slow to roll, the upcoming "Superman: Man Of Steel" movie seems to be moving forward. The director has been chosen (Zack Snyder), many of the main characters have been cast, and script details are slowly leaking out. And while we would never presume to know what the filmmakers are thinking, it's worth noting that a lot's riding on this project: if a second attempt at relaunching the franchise goes wrong, who knows when Superman will ever see the screen again?

With that in mind, we've come up with a few recommendations for the "Man of Steel" team. Read More...

ThorBy Ryan J. Downey

FROM MTV MOVIES: "Thor" held on to the top spot at the box office over the weekend while runner-up "Bridesmaids" surpassed industry expectations with an impressive $24.4 million debut, according to studio estimates.

Meanwhile, the new post-apocalyptic vampire film "Priest" floundered and a pair of indie flicks in limited release, "Everything Must Go" and "Hesher," posted up low per-screen averages.

Based on the Marvel Comics hero drawn from Norse mythology, "Thor" earned $34.5 million in its second weekend of release for a total take of $119.2 million. The action flick, starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role, helps set the stage for this summer's "The Avengers." It has earned $225 million worldwide.

SmallvilleLast night's episode of "Smallville" capped off ten years of adventures with Clark Kent, but now that the credits have rolled, what do you think of the series finale?

We brought you one longtime fan's take on the final episode of "Smallville" last night, but we want to hear from the rest of you, too. Did you love it? Did you get a bit misty-eyed when you heard the final score and tell the people in the room with you that it was just a pollen allergy? (I'm not describing anything that happened to me or anyone I know, of course. That's just a completely random example.)

On the other hand, were you a bit disappointed by the way "Smallville" bid farewell to fans? Were you expecting something more after ten years? Read More...

SmallvilleBy Sal Loria

[Editor's Note: With "Smallville" concluding its ten-year run tonight, I reached out to a friend of mine who's been following the show since the very first episode to provide some analysis of the grand finale. This is what he had to say about the final adventure with Clark Kent and the rest of the "Smallville" cast. -RM]

Lana: Nietzsche? Didn’t realize you had a dark side, Clark.
Clark: Doesn’t everybody?
Lana: Yeah… I guess so. So, what are you… Man or Superman?

This was the very first exchange between awkward teen Clark Kent and his not-so-secret crush Lana Lang back on October 16, 2001, when "Smallville" debuted on television. Developed originally by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series set out to chronicle how a farm boy in small-town Kansas would become the world’s greatest superhero.

So, after ten seasons containing over 200 episodes, would Lana — not to mention millions of fans — finally get an answer? Read More...

There's less than a few hours until the "Smallville" series finale, and we have one last preview to tease you with, courtesy of the good folks at The CW.

In the following video, "Smallville" actors Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Erica Durance (Lois Lane), and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) offer up a little insight about what the future holds for Clark and Lois' relationship. It's a cute little piece of video that we couldn't help sharing with you before the finale kicks off in a little while.

Of course, if you haven't been following along at home, it's far from the only nod we've given the "Smallville" finale. Read More...

PriestFROM MTV MOVIES: Long in development, shuffled schizophrenically from release date to release date and given a post-production conversion to 3-D, "Priest" is finally here. Critics, alas, haven't seemed to welcome its belayed arrival very warmly.

Based on a manhwa that never really connected with comics readers, the film has been dinged for its hackneyed dialogue and shallow story development. Yet "Priest" is not without its fans. Some reviewers have praised the movie's popcorn-action pleasures and starkly beautiful visual aesthetic. Weak reviews aside, the vampire flick finds itself facing off against a fanboy favorite in "Thor," and the God of Thunder (even in his second week in theaters), will easily vanquish the bloodsuckers of "Priest."

Read on for a deep dive into the reviews — the good, the bad and the ugly — of "Priest."

SmallvilleNo matter how you feel about the impending conclusion of "Smallville," there's one thing all comic fans can probably agree on: it was always interesting to see which DC characters appeared on the show, and more importantly, how they'd look when they made the leap to a live-action world.

Over the course of its ten-year run, "Smallville" featured a wide range of DC heroes and villains in single-episode and recurring roles, from A-list icons to D-list players in the superhero landscape. And you have to hand it to the "Smallville" creative team — they didn't shy away from using characters from the weirder corners of the DC Universe. (Heck, the Wonder Twins even made an appearance.)

From Amos Fortune to Zatanna Zatara, no character was off-limits, it seemed. And while some of the characters' debuts were short-lived, others went on to take a regular, active role in shaping Clark Kent's destiny on the series. Read More...

Doctor WhoMarvel's god of thunder isn't the only space-traveling hero on director Kenneth Branagh's radar these days, as the "Thor" filmmaker recently spent most of a recent interview with Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson discussing "Doctor Who."

Apparently, the Shakespeare-friendly actor and filmmaker is a big fan of the British science-fiction series and its new star, Matt Smith, which makes us like the guy even more around Splash Page HQ. (I wonder what he thought of 2007's "The Shakespeare Code" episode...)

You can check out the full interview over at Craig Ferguson's YouTube channel, but I've clipped the portions of the interview that include talk of "Doctor Who" below, since there's a big chunk of back-and-forth about James Bond sandwiched between them. Read More...

SmallvilleWe're mere hours away from the final episode of "Smallville," but that just means we still have a few hours of previews to bring you before Clark Kent kicks off his final adventure on The CW.

This time around, the sneak peeks come in the form of a new promotional image for tonight's two-hour episode, and a video teaser featuring producer Brian Peterson — who just so happened to chat with MTV News earlier this week about the big finale and the last ten years of "Smallville."

You can check out the teaser and promo image below, the latter of which features Clark and Lois about to tie the knot. Too bad we all know that "Smallville" weddings rarely go off without a hitch, eh? Read More...
