FROM MTV MOVIES: "Priest" may spin a story about interactions between humans and vampires, and it may feature former "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet, but enough already with the comparisons between this new 3-D action flick and teen-oriented supernatural dramas on TV and the big screen.
Yet the "Priest" cast continually gets asked the same tiresome Twi-questions. As star Lily Collins put it to MTV News, "A lot of people are asking why another movie with vampires, what's so different?"
Her answer to those feeling that pop culture has become saturated with vampires is that you haven't seen anything quite like "Priest," which hits theaters on Friday. "It's post-apocalyptic, Western, action, sci-fi, and it's in 3-D," she explains. "[Director] Scott Stewart's vision of these vampires is very much as alien creatures. They shriek and have their own language and they're the stuff of nightmares and they're all CG."

Fox broke some bads news to "Human Target" and "Locke and Key" fans this week, canceling this first show and passing on the latter. Along with the also-cancelled "Chicago Code," the programs left a pile of sad tweets in their wake.
On a more positive front, the "Powers" TV series still seems to be climbing its way toward reality, as Brian Michael Bendis teased Twitter about his casting tapes once again. This morning's rundown boasts that update, some Ninjak dismay from Kurt Busiek and more absolutely incredible Jim Lee artwork. Brace yourself and check it out after the jump.

We're edging ever closer to the "Smallville" series finale, when we'll bid a fond farewell to ten years of adventures with Clark Kent and a long list of DC superheroes and villains. It's a sad moment for fans who have been following the series throughout its record-breaking run, but the show's team seems intent on making it a memorable goodbye — so much so that they're even giving fans a genuine piece of "Smallville" history.
As you'll see in the photos below, I received a special package from "Smallville" producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson today that included a nice "thank you" note and an actual piece of the "Smallville" set.
Which piece, you ask? Well, here's a hint: you can almost feel the evil radiating from it. Read more...

A trio of comics-inspired television projects were the subject of headlines today, and little of the news was good.
According to Deadline, Fox has decided not to pick up the pilot for "Locke & Key," a planned miniseries based on IDW Publishing's popular comic. While there's still a chance that another network could step in to take ownership of the project, fans should probably temper their expectations at this point. (We're keeping our fingers crossed here at Splash Page HQ.)
Fox wasn't done with the bad news, though, as the network also announced the cancellation of "Human Target." Read more...

Mystique has reasons for being a villain in the "X-Men" franchise, as Jennifer Lawrence, who plays the blue-skinned character in “X-Men: First Class,” knows very well. Getting into the history of Mystique was part of why she loved playing her.
“I love characters that evolve and stories that evolve, and that's my favorite part about this entire film — every character goes through an evolution to get to where they are now,” Lawrence told IGN. “We know which side they are on, but with this movie we get to see why."
"That's what I think is interesting: she's not just a good girl gone bad, she's a good girl that's been hurt and kind of finds a resolve or comfort on this side that she really thinks is right," she explained. Read more...

More and more comics are becoming movies and TV shows, as “The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman certainly knows. His zombie-filled comic may be a hit show now, but Kirkman remains humble when discussing his hopes for the comics industry and the attention Hollywood is paying to it these days.
“I’m really thankful that the success of The Walking Dead has had and I hope it’s leading to more graphic novels being picked up and turned into television shows, as opposed to more zombie shows,” Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter.
When asked about other graphic novels that networks should look into, Kirkman listed off “Chew” (already picked up by Showtime), “Morning Glories,” and “Criminal.” Read more...

The last episode of "Smallville" airs this Friday, and there's no shortage of reminders popping up around the 'net these days. Each day seems to bring a new teaser image or clip from the good folks at The CW, offering a little something to keep fans occupied until the two-hour grand finale.
Yesterday we got a peek at a clip from the "Smallville" series finale featuring Clark Kent and Lois Lane discussing their upcoming wedding, and now we have a cornucopia of additional video popping up on The CW's YouTube channel. Among the new video is a grim little teaser for Michael Rosenbaum's impending return as Lex Luthor, as well as interviews with both Rosenbaum and Lois Lane herself, Erica Durance.
Bu that's not all to be found in The CW's pre-finale offerings. There's also a series of video packages that summarize the first six seasons of the record-breaking series. Read more...

A few members of the MTV News team arrived in France this week for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and from the looks of things, they got right down to business, snapping photos of some of the movie posters and promotional images peppering the city.
Among the movies getting the big promotional push at the festival is Jon Favreau's upcoming sci-fi western mash-up "Cowboys & Aliens." The film was represented in a big way at Cannes, judging by the photo we received from our festival team.

Click on the image above to check out a larger version of this photo, as well as more of the promotional imagery around Cannes — including a new poster for “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn."

We're three episodes into the new season of "Doctor Who," and it's pretty safe to say that the series' popularity is at an all-time high. As the MTV Newsroom's resident Whovian, I've brought you a steady dose of "Doctor Who" interviews, news, and updates on MTV Splash Page, but it's great to see the series receive some attention elsewhere around the mainstream media-verse, too.
Earlier this week, former Today show co-host Meredith Vieira recently visited the Cardiff set of "Doctor Who" for a fun segment on the series. You can watch it in full on the show's website, but I've clipped a particularly funny exchange with star Matt Smith that you can check out below:
In other "Doctor Who" news, next week's premiere of "The Doctor's Wife" is getting a lot of extra attention thanks to the involvement of noted comic book writer and novelist Neil Gaiman. Read more...

Robert E. Howard's famous barbarian carves his way back into theaters this summer, and with just a few months until the "Conan the Barbarian" premiere, it's not surprising that the marketing machine has shifted into high gear.
Last week, we got a brand new trailer for "Conan" that offered a lot more information about the plot and tone of the film, and this week we have a new poster showing the barbarian in his natural element. Sadly, the poster isn't animated this time around.
The new poster debuted over at IGN Movies, and features the tagline "Born On The Battlefield." Crom! Read more...
