FROM MTV MOVIES: Given its mighty haul at the box office earlier this summer, Disney and Marvel Studios have officially green-lit a "Thor" sequel to be released July 26, 2013.
Deadline originally reported that Chris Hemsworth will return to play the titular God of Thunder, but director Kenneth Branagh will not be back, which Disney confirmed to MTV News.
When we spoke with Branagh prior to the film's release in May, the esteemed thespian seemed to be interested in continuing the story of the haughty Asgardian but was cautious about stating outright that he would be 100 percent in to direct a second "Thor" film.

Yesterday we got a new "Captain America" television spot, and today we have a brand new poster from the upcoming film featuring Chris Evans as soldier-turned-superhero Steve Rogers.
The new international poster for "Captain America: The First Avenger" debuted at ComingSoon.net, and offers a nice look at Evans as Cap (sans mask) in the foreground, with the Howling Commandoes behind him. Tommy Lee Jones also appears on the poster as Col. Chester Phillips, along with Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.
Above it all, the eyes of Red Skull peer out over the assembled cast. *shiver* Read more...

The third and possibly final installment of Michael Bay's "Transformers" movie franchise arrived in theaters this week, and just like many of the superhero movies we cover here on Splash Page, it's full of call-outs to the cartoons and comics that inspired it.
That's why we decided to give "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" the same treatment as "X-Men: First Class," "Thor," and "Green Lantern," and identify some of the cool, under-the-radar elements you'll want to look for when you head the movies. (Oh, and I'm a big nerd for giant robots, too. That's the other reason.)
Not able to watch the video? Don't worry — I've highlighted each of the elements I call out in the video below. Read more...

Over the last year, "The Wolverine” has had some bumps in its road to production, like the departure of director Darren Aronofsky and concerns about filming in Japan after the tragic earthquake. But it looks as if things might be smoothing out for the next solo film featuring the Marvel hero.
Indie Wire reported on a CHFI radio interview Hugh Jackman conducted in Toronto. Instead of describing any further problems for production, Jackman had some good news for everyone looking forward to the film.
“We shoot ['The Wolverine'] in October, so it will probably come out a year after that,” he said. “That’s usually around the timeline.” Read more...

It feels like just yesterday I was toasting the end of another San Diego Comic-Con and the promise of 11 months of not freaking out about everything going on at the biggest industry event of the year. Cut to today, and... INITIATE FREAK-OUT.
Yes, this year's Comic-Con International kicks off a month from now, and while I'm still not certain whether I'll be in San Diego for the show (*fingers crossed*), you can bet that MTV News will be there in some form, bringing you all the highlights from the show floor and beyond. And much like we did last year, we've teamed up with some of our movie-blogging pals from around the InterWebs to reveal what we're most looking forward to at this year's Comic-Con-palooza. Yesterday, our Twitter peeps were jabbering about the new "Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol" trailer, but a few people finally realized in the last 24 hours that the film's director, Brad Bird, is the same guy who did "The Incredibles." Dan Slott and Marc Bernardin chewed on those implications, while Mark Millar was just happy to see Gwyneth Paltrow show up scantily clad in Vanity Fair.
Other popular topics for the night included requests for Google+ invitations from creators eager to grab an early home on Google's new social network. The service turned out to be a welcome change for R. Stevens, thanks to one key attribute that sets it apart from Facebook. Find out what that is and where "Powers" and "Cowboys and Aliens" post-production are at after the jump.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for June 30, 2011. Read more...

Way back in January, we got word that a sequel was in the works for "Red," last year's well-received adaptation of Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's comic book miniseries. After all, Helen Mirren is on board for another go-around as one of the greatest secret agents ever to wield a sniper rifle, so why not?
When MTV News snagged some time with "Red" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura at the "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" premiere, we asked him about his plans for "Red 2."
"We're trying to put it together," he told MTV News. "We just got a script and it's really good. We're all just now discussing how to put it all back together again." Read more...

One thing that sets "Captain America: The First Avenger" apart from the rest of Marvel's recent and upcoming slate of movies is that, well... everyone already knows how it ends.
Since it's no secret that Captain America had a long list of adventures during World War II prior to joining the modern-era Avengers, the new television spot featuring an arctic team discovering the hero frozen in ice probably isn't too much of a spoiler.
Featuring the tagline "Every Legend... Every Hero... Has A Beginning," the new spot begins with the discovery of the hero — and his iconic shield — frozen in ice, then offers a montage of action scenes from the upcoming film. Read more...

Earlier this month, we were psyched to bring you the news that the award-winning Dark Horse Comics series "Beast Of Burden" was being made into a CG-animated feature.Things seems to have been moving right along since then, as the studio has found a screenwriter for the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Jack The Giant Killer" writer Darren Lemke will pen the screenplay for "Beasts Of Burden," which follows a group of animals in the fictional community of Burden Hill who fight supernatural threats. The Eisner-winning comic book — which we recommended for adaptation all the way back in September 2009 — was created by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson. Read more...
