DC may have two of the superhero genre’s heaviest hitters in Superman and Batman, but without Wonder Woman—whose projects have had a hard time taking off as of late—the publisher’s film presence remains one gal short of The Big Three, the foundation of all Justice League dreams.
As it turns out, though, in this climate of seemingly endless superhero marketability, such circumstances may not stand in the way of DC and production counterpart Warner Bros shopping around a certain winged character who's spent time on the ever-changing Justice League roster.
Rumor has it a “Hawkman” movie is being shepherded by producers Adrian Askarieh, Gregory Novack and production executive Will Hackner. The info comes courtesy of It’sOnTheGrid (via The Playlist), a members-only site for tracking Hollywood project seedlings.
You can read the prospective log-line for the potential film below, and it's interesting, to say the least:
Part INDIANA JONES/DA VINCI CODE, part GHOST tentpole about the fictional superhero that appears in D.C. Comic books. He used archaic weaponry and large, artificial wings attached to a harness made of the Nth metal that allows flight. Most incarnations of Hawkman work closely with a partner/romantic interest named Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman in his fight against supervillains. Based on the DC comic.
If nothing else, comparisons to films like those of the “Indiana Jones” and “Da Vinci Code” franchises point toward the likelihood of this storyline exploring the character’s original origin, in which American archeologist Carter Hall discovers he’s a reincarnated ancient Egyptian prince, rather than origins involving the planet Thanagar. Of course, this is all still rumor at this point.
Adrian Askarieh has long been attached to the development of “Hack/Slash”, and more recently, an adaptation of J. Scott Campbell’s “Danger Girl”. Gregory Novack, once SVP of Creative Affairs at DC, has executive production credits on DC Animated features including “Wonder Woman”, “Justice League: The New Frontier” and “Superman/Doomsday”.
