DESCGreen Lantern” may be doing less than stellar at the box office and receiving a fair amount of negative reviews from critics, but that doesn’t mean the movie franchise is over. Writers have already been hired for “Green Lantern 2,” and it doesn’t appear that they will lose their jobs any time soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers is still behind the franchise and pursuing a sequel. Although the movie fell 66 percent at the box office this weekend, President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman said that it’s typical for fanboy films to see a major dip after their opening weekend. True BloodThe "True Blood" premiere sent shockwaves through the Twittersphere last night, and shark-jumping accusations have been made. Fred Van Lente thinks the show just needs to be more honest about who its audience is though.

There was plenty stirring in the world of comics films, too, though. Joe Quesada announced that he'd be visiting a shoot for "The Avengers," and Steve Niles dropped a preview of an announcement coming this week about "Wake the Dead." Find out more about that, and check out where Rob Liefeld used to draw his X-Force layouts after the jump.

Christopher MeloniThe cast of "Man Of Steel," Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot of the Superman film franchise, has been filling out quite nicely in recent weeks, with another well-known actor joining the production this weekend.

As first reported by Deadline, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" actor Christopher Meloni will join the "Man Of Steel" cast in an unspecified role. While the initial report simply indicated that he would play a "major role" in the film, Meloni later told Vulture that he will play a general in the military and dismissed rumors that he would become the new face of Superman's arch enemy, Lex Luthor. Captain AmericaJust in time to coincide with the second trailer for "Captain America: The First Avenger," MTV News proudly presents our report from the set of the star-spangled superhero's big-screen debut!

MTV Movies Blog Editor Josh Wigler visited the Marvel Comics adaptation's Shepperton Studios set in September 2010, and you'll hear all about it throughout the day right here at Splash Page.

Chris Evans is gone now and the Red Skull is standing in front of me. For a minute, I feel as though I've been whipped up into the clouds by a hurricane and dropped without warning into the Marvel-ous land of my childhood. Close, but not quite: instead, it's September 2010 and I'm in the United Kingdom on the set of "Captain America," and sure enough, standing in front of me is acting legend Hugo Weaving, covered head to toe in full Red Skull regalia, makeup and all.

We have two minutes to speak with him. They are the most surreal two minutes of my life as a professional nerd.

Julia OrmondCasting is not yet done for the Superman reboot “Man of Steel,” but we may be one step closer to getting all the main actors hired. The movie wouldn’t be complete without Superman’s Kryptonian mother, and the movie has its eye on the actress it wants for the role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an official offer has been made to Julia Ormond for her to play Lara, Superman’s mother. His earth mother, Martha Kent, will be played by Diane Lane. Read More...

Steve Rogers is the kind of man who would jump on a grenade for you — just check out the new "Captain America" trailer if you don't believe me — and even if he hasn't always had the brawn to back up his bravery, he's always had the fighting spirit. It's that very spirit that provides the backbone for who Steve is, according to Chris Evans. In fact, it's exactly what attracted him to the role in the first place.

Evans, who had struggled through a wardrobe malfunction earlier in the day, opened up to the gathered journalists on the "Cap" set about how much he relates to "Skinny Steve," a guy without the bulk of most men but with heart and guts that are second to none. He attributed his sympathy for Steve to something — or someone, rather — very personal to him.

Gene ColanThe comics world lost a legend Thursday night with the passing of artist Gene Colan. Legions of creators, including Jimmy Palmiotti, Paul Cornell and many others have shared their memories of his work on "Daredevil," "The Tomb of Dracula" and "Batman."

The other trending tweet topic of the night was the new "Captain America: The First Avenger" trailer that showed up yesterday. Steve Rogers and the Red Skull both got healthy amounts of screen time, but Tool music ultimately sold Skottie Young on the film. His evaluation and Tony Millionaire's call for investors made today's mix tape of tweet highlights.

They say that the clothes make the man. That's certainly true when it comes to Chris Evans and Steve Rogers, though the comic book movie veteran does seem to have some trouble with one little aspect of his superhero suit.

In September, I joined a small group of journalists on the England set of "Captain America" and had the chance to interview the man himself about playing one of Marvel's most iconic characters. When we first met Evans, he looked less like the super soldier we were expecting and more like Luke Skywalker circa "Return of the Jedi," shrouded in a thick black cloak designed to prevent nearby photographers from snapping early shots of his highly anticipated costume. But when he whipped the covering off, there he was: Captain America in all of his glory. Well, not all of it, thankfully — but almost.

"Smooth as ever," he groaned upon realizing that, yes, his fly was open. Very smooth indeed, Cap.

Earlier this week, we heard from "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" lead Reeve Carney about the long, difficult road the show traveled to get to last week's Broadway premiere. And while he had a lot to say about the evolution of the story, characters, and theme of the show, "Turn Off The Dark" is, after all, a musical.

Given the hands-on involvement of U2 frontmen Bono and The Edge, we made sure to ask him about the music of "Turn Off The Dark" and how his own band, Carney, was involved with the production.

"Edge worked a lot with the band, and Bono did as well," Carney told MTV News. "They basically took my band, Carney, and worked with them as a trio for a few months, and then they eventually brought the full orchestra in. They used them to get the arrangements the way they wanted them to be, and sort of make them feel like a core rock n' roll band." Read More...
