Anyone sick of seeing tweets about "Game of Thrones" can rest easy for a while, because the first season ended last night, paving the way for Jon Favreau, Andy Diggle and Frank Tieri to twiddle their thumbs for a year and wait to see what happens next.
Meanwhile, "Green Lantern" inspired Bill Willingham to share a haiku with his followers, and Jim Lee provide some info about DC's policy on pants. Find out why that was important for Gene Ha, and check out who Michael Cho would like to see play Conan after the jump.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for June 20, 2011. Read more...

Green Lantern, DC Comics’ intergalactic hero, soared into theaters this weekend, introducing many people to a character who made his debut more than 50 years ago.
DC scribe and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns was heavily involved in the making of this film, so it should come as no surprise that the comic books themselves form the basic fabric of the movie’s story.
As we've done in the past for films like "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class," we’re taking a look at the various elements of the film and breaking down for you just where they come from in Green Lantern’s decades of comics history.
Oh, and if you haven't seen "Green Lantern" yet, consider this your SPOILER WARNING! Read more...

The ten-year run of "Smallville" is in the rearview mirror now, but that doesn't mean the record-breaking series has faded from the minds of its cast or fans. MTV News recently caught up with actress Laura Vandervoort, who played Supergirl in a recurring role on the show the last few seasons.
"I really enjoyed being on 'Smallville,'" said Vandervoort when asked about saying goodbye to her character, Kara, and the rest of the "Smallville" universe. Read more...

FROM MTV MOVIES: The big-screen debut of DC Comics' "emerald knight" may have been #1 at the box-office over the weekend but it failed to gather as much green as most observers had hoped. "Green Lantern" generated an estimated $52.6 million in its debut weekend, less than the opening numbers for superhero flicks "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" earlier this year.
The heavily marketed potential franchise starter, which stars Ryan Reynolds, cost an estimated $200 million to produce. To put the numbers in perspective, fewer people saw "Green Lantern" on opening weekend than the film adaptations of lesser known superheroes like "Daredevil" and "Ghost Rider."

Now that "Green Lantern" is in theaters, more people know that the DC Comics universe is a big place, with the self-styled Guardians of the Universe watching over 3600 individual sectors, each assigned its own member of the Green Lantern Corps to patrol and protect it.
As you can probably imagine, one sector in particular — numbered 2814 — has proven extremely troublesome time and again. In fact, it’s one particular planet in that sector where most of the trouble comes from (or, in the case of the "Green Lantern" movie, ends up on): a little mudball called “Earth.”
Because of the constant problems stemming from this planet, the Guardians determined over time that more than one Green Lantern is warranted to watch over it. in the new film, we see Hal Jordan become the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 — but there have been others, past and present, who have come to Earth’s defense when needed.
For those who saw the film and want to catch up on the Corps, we've put together a quick primer on who's come before and after Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern comics universe. Read more...

All week, we've been bringing you wall-to-wall coverage of "Green Lantern," so now that the film has made its big debut, what do you think?
Sure, we know the critics aren't too thrilled about Ryan Reynolds' debut as Hal Jordan, but that doesn't mean everyone is leaving the theater with bad feelings about DC's ring-wielding superhero. After all, the movie isn't doing too bad at the box office so far...
Nevertheless, it's time to hear from you about "Green Lantern." Read more...

I know I'm not alone in being impressed by the recent "Star Trek" movie that effectively rebooted the science-fiction franchise for a younger generation. Sadly, we might have to wait a while for the "Star Trek" sequel, but it looks like there will be ample opportunity for fans of both the original series and the new, alternate timeline to get their fix of adventures with the crew of The Enterprise.
IDW Publishing announced plans today for a new series of "Star Trek" comics shepherded by the writer and producer of the 2009 film, Roberto Orci. According to the press release, "Star Trek" #1 will hit shelves in September, and feature stories from the original series re-imagined with the new crew.
Orci will oversee the ongoing series, with writer Mike Johnson and artist Stephen Molnar handling the individual issues. Read more...

"Green Lantern" has finally arrived in theaters, but as many media outlets (including us) have pointed out, there's a good chance that many of the people lining up to see Ryan Reynolds' big-screen debut as Hal Jordan know very little about DC Comics' cosmic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps.
Don't worry if you're a Green Lantern newbie, though, we've got your back. Along with having the "Green Lantern" cast explain their characters, we also put together a quick primer on some of the alien members of the Corps.
Once you check out our "Green Lantern" Alien 101 above, there are a few other places you might want to look to get up to speed on Hal Jordan and the rest of the Corps. Read more...

Another photo of “The Avengers” cast has surfaced, but this one isn’t a set photo. In fact, it’s a shot of cast members Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo teaming up with... (get ready for this)... Mötley Crüe!

Posted over at On Locations Vocations, this photo gives us a little something fun to see from the superhero actors. Mötley Crüe had a show at Albuquerque’s Hard Rock Pavilion this past weekend, and perhaps it was kismet that “The Avengers” is being filmed in the same city. Apparently, at least three members of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are fans of the rock band and not only watched the show, but got to pose with them, too. Read more...

FROM MTV MOVIES: "Green Lantern" was in out of development since the 1990s when Warner Bros. scooped it up and finally brought the comic book adaptation to the big screen. And the studio seems to have found the right superhero formula. Despite tepid reviews, the Ryan Reynolds-starring flick nabbed $3.3 million during midnight screenings on Thursday and is looking at an opening weekend total of as much as $70 million.
While that's not quite "Iron Man" territory ($98.6 million in 2008), it's impressive nonetheless, especially when you note how strongly critics have hit back against "Green Lantern."
