Now that the release date for “Captain America: The First Avenger” is drawing close, Paramount Pictures is revving up the promotional campaign with thirteen brand new stills from the superhero movie.

Posted over at Superhero Hype, the photos give a brief but tantalizing look into what we can expect from the film, including both passionate and combat-related shots.
The movie takes place during World War II, and the fact that it’s a period piece is definitely clear in all of the photos, thanks to the '40s style cars and the costuming. Its story follows that of Steve Rogers, a rejected soldier who takes a serum that turns him into the heroic Captain America. None of these photos show the original, skinny Steve, but more than one shows a buff Captain America in his uniform.

But it’s not just about Cap. Other characters are shown as well, including Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. Carter is shown not only kissing Cap, but running armed with other soldiers into what must be battle.

Starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell and Tommy Lee Jones, “Captain America: The First Avenger” hits theaters in 2-D and 3-D on July 22.
