"The Avengers" aren't formally assembling for Comic-Con this year (not in Hall H, at least; there are rumors of a considerably more viral approach for promoting Joss Whedon's superhero movie), but that doesn't mean they're not celebrating the nerdiest weekend of the year.
With the San Diego-based convention kicking off in full swing today, Marvel Studios have used the occasion to launch the official website and first teaser poster for "The Avengers," the long-awaited comic book flick that unites the likes of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America and Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury.
Sure, the poster is about as barebones as it gets, as is the website itself (not a whole lot to do just yet beyond downloading the poster), but hey, we'll take it! Not that any of us need a reminder to assemble in 2012, I'm sure — May 4 of that year is already good and booked in most of our calendars by now — but getting into the thick of the "Avengers" promotional campaign is exciting all the same, even if we haven't caught an official glimpse at the fully assembled superhero lineup just yet.
Are you a fan of the "Avengers" poster? Is it a bit too simple for your liking, or are you like us, happy enough to receive a sign that this seemingly impossible movie is actually happening? We want to hear your feedback in the comments section and on Twitter!
