Robert Rodriguez knows how to work the San Diego Comic-Con hype machine. The filmmaker scheduled a panel for the first day of the Con, but wouldn't let slip what he would actually be presenting. The mystery persisted up until he took the stage, at which point Rodriguez proceeded to drop bomb after bomb.

"Sin City 2" is picking up speed and could begin production this year; two "Machete" sequels are in the works, the second of which will take place in space; and Rodriguez has partnered with the estate of Frank Frazetta both to create a museum for the legendary artist's work and to use that work as the basis for an entire new franchise of films -- starting with a loose remake of 1983's "Fire and Ice." Boom!

Just hours after the panel, Rodriguez invited us into the Hard Rock to give us an exclusive look at some of Frazetta's work and the Frazetta-inspired films he wants to make in the future. He showed us a painting titled "Conan the Barbarian," a 1966 work that established the iconic look of the sword-swinging hero. He dove into a depiction of "Death Dealer," a character around which he wants to make a future movie. And he revealed that "Silver Warriors" inspired the poster he put together for "Predators."

FROM MTV NEW: SAN DIEGO — "The Amazing Spider-Man" swung into San Diego Comic-Con on Friday (July 22), and star Andrew Garfield made sure he came ready to talk about the comic book influences he drew from for his performance.

Part of what makes Garfield so endearing in the role is his passion for the character of Spider-Man and his love of the comic books. When he chatted with MTV News, he showed off his nerd cred by dropping comic book names when describing the suit and physicality he used for Peter Parker.

"The body time in the Ultimates is what I loved," he explained. "Because I'm skinny, if you hadn't noticed; I'm a skinny guy. I love the idea of a skinny guy beating the crap out of big guys just as a personal fantasy fulfillment."

Some of the most exciting news to come out of the Entertainment Weekly cover story on "The Amazing Spider-Man" was word that Rhys Ifans will be definitely be playing Dr. Curt Connors (otherwise known as the villain Lizard). So now that his identity is out there in the world, Ifans is ready to talk about it.

The "Notting Hill" and "Replacements" star caught up with MTV News before the big "Amazing Spider-Man" Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the movie, and he spilled the beans on how Curt will fit into the "Spider-Man" universe.

"Like all great villains, Curt Connors doesn’t see himself as a villain. He wants to save the world," he said.

Finding out that Robert Rodriguez still wants "Sin City 2" to happen is something of a San Diego Comic-Con tradition for MTV News.

This year MTV News caught up with the "Machete" director while he was showing off his new Frank Frazetta art gallery, and he said that the follow-up to the 2005 comic-book flick was still in the works and that the script is coming into its own. While official casting won't start until the script is finalized and in studio hands, Rodriguez said that actors whose names have cropped up in the past -- like Angelina Jolie and Rachel Weisz -- could still join the project.

"I don't think we'll have trouble [getting stars to come] on board because people loved 'Sin City' and they love that world and they love a chance to play in that arena and so many actors especially love film noir, and it's such an updated modernized film noir that it doesn’t feel nostalgic," he explained. "It feels new, so I think people will run to be a part of it."

Tom Hardy has plenty to say about his new mixed martial arts themed movie, "Warrior," as well as bodily injuries, the weather in Australia (where he's supposed to make a "Mad Max" movie someday), and all of the fun he's having at San Diego Comic-Con. But when MTV News pressed him about his role as the villainous Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," which sees him reuniting with his ultra-secretive "Inception" director Christopher Nolan, well...

"I can't [talk about it], so let's have another question. Have you got time for another question? Because you can't have this one," he fired back with rapid-fire speed and mock-seriousness.

"No, you can't!" he repeated as our reporter pressed onward. "No! No! No! No!"
