Everyone knows Anne Hathaway will be playing Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) in next summer’s “Dark Knight Rises.” And unless you’re just coming off a week-long Internet fast, you’ve not only seen the first look at the actress’ costume, but posted it on your Facebook wall, Tweeted about it and maybe even talked to someone about it in real life. But Hathaway isn’t exactly pleased with some of the reactions the suit’s been garnering.
Speaking with MTV News about the role and costume, Hathaway reminded us all of that stuff we post on the Internet? It’s available for everyone to read.
“I asked someone to send me a few reactions, and I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh,’ ” she said.
While nowhere in the article does it actually say “meh,” possibly because it wasn’t written by a “Simpsons” fan circa the turn of the century, we’re pretty sure she’s referring to this article here. The writer of the piece, the inimitable Brian Phares, pointed out right up front that we aren’t even sure if this is the costume’s final form or not, but nonetheless, it appears to have gotten the new Catwoman’s cosign.
“What I am happy to say is: If you didn’t like the photo…you only see about a tenth of what that suit can do,” she assured us. “And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste.”
Unfortunately, Hathaway didn’t go into any further detail about what the remaining 90 percent of her suit’s abilities are. The suit’s skin-tight nature doesn’t leave much room for impressive gadgets or special abilities, so we’re a little in the dark about what she could be referring to. Hidden cat-burglar gear? Retractable claws? A built-in GPS that hones in on any nearby IMAX cameras? For our money, we’re just hoping the suit’s capable of growing some ears.
What do you think about Anne Hathaway’s costume in “The Dark Knight Rises”? Was it “meh” worthy, or are people being too harsh on this early glimpse?
