ripdThe people behind “R.I.P.D.” are hoping to start filming in September, which means casting needs to be finalized soon. Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges are already the leads and Kevin Bacon has already been cast as a villain of some sort, and now actress Stephanie Szostak is in negotiations to play Reynolds’ wife.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, her character will be still be alive but is somehow able to sense her dead husband's presence. Does she have psychic powers, or is her love so strong it will continue after death? Either way, it's a lead role, so don’t expect her to be some forgotten wife only showing up for a scene or two.

The AvengersFile this under enigmatic: Marvel Studios have slotted two movies for the summer of 2014, but won't disclose the titles.

Superhero Hype reports the news that parent company Walt Disney Pictures have scheduled one Marvel movie for a May 16, 2014 bow (two weeks after the "Amazing Spider-Man" sequel is scheduled to swing into theaters) while the other targets June 27 as its release date.

But as far as what those projects are? It's anyone's guess… and speaking of, we have a few hunches of our own after the jump!

Full disclosure: Although I love Spider-Man, I am not as psyched about "The Amazing Spider-Man" as everyone else. I loved Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi! Still do, actually. However, I will admit I've warmed up to Andrew Garfield-as-Spidey now that we've seen him in action and in costume and heard all about the work he put into the character. Not to mention his adorable Hall H panel appearance at Comic-Con.

Furthermore, when MTV News caught up with director Marc Webb and producer Matthew Tolmach at San Diego Comic-Con, they explained a few new explorations and additions to the webslinger's universe that have me intrigued.

"We're creating a world of our own devising, but we take cues from the comics," Webb said of using the Marvel comics for inspiration, adding that although the film will touch on Parker's missing parents, which is new to the movie adaptations, they won't be fleshing out the comic-book storyline that revealed Mr. and Mrs. Parker to be secret government agents.

"In terms of the CIA-secret-agent thing, we're not really going down that road in particular," Webb said. "Not in this movie."

avengersMarvel Studios largely sat out San Diego Comic-Con last month, declining to deliver a major Hall H presentation as in years past. The speculation was the studio would hold back its superhero goods -- and the "Avengers" footage director Joss Whedon has been capturing since the spring -- until D23 Expo, Disney's behind-the-scenes exhibition of what the mouse house has in its creative pipeline.

On Tuesday (August 9), that speculation proved to be accurate, as Disney announced "The Avengers" would officially be assembling at D23 when it hits the Anaheim Convention Center from August 19-21. The studio's press release didn't contain much further information about what (and who) will be part of the "Avengers" presentation, other than the vague promise of "cast members from Marvel's 'The Avengers.' " But Whedon told us at SDCC that what made it into the teaser trailer during the "Captain America" end credits was shot in the first few weeks of production, so presumably the filmmaker now has a hefty editing bay worth of superhero footage.

After the jump, check out an excerpt from the press release with the lineup of what to expect at this year's D23.

I was in a state of shock. Had Anne Hathaway actually read my article? Had my crafty wordplay about her Catwoman costume touched her heart in some way? This just couldn’t be the case. And yet...

...and yet here I was, manning a camera during an interview with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in the Waldorf-Astoria as our own Josh Horowitz began inquiring about the "Dark Knight Rises" star's thoughts on reactions to her newfangled Catsuit. "I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was, 'Meh,' " Anne replied, with a disapproving bat of the eyes.

Could she mean my article? Was that accusing glance directed at the wrong person in the room? As if to drive the point home she repeated the phrase a second time. I think she was trying to tell me something.

Dark Knight RisesWhether they live in the U.K. or the U.S., comics creators in the feed have been expressing collective shock over the course of the last day in response to the London riots that broke out over the weekend. Simon Pegg and Mark Millar both offered their perspectives, and Tony Lee had his travel plans impacted.

Thankfully, Lea Hernandez offered a beacon of light to the day's tweets with some "Doctor Who"-inspired bunny art. Check out the magic down below, along with a brilliant career suggestion for David Schwimmer.

Everyone knows Anne Hathaway will be playing Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) in next summer’s “Dark Knight Rises.” And unless you’re just coming off a week-long Internet fast, you’ve not only seen the first look at the actress’ costume, but posted it on your Facebook wall, Tweeted about it and maybe even talked to someone about it in real life. But Hathaway isn’t exactly pleased with some of the reactions the suit’s been garnering.

Speaking with MTV News about the role and costume, Hathaway reminded us all of that stuff we post on the Internet? It’s available for everyone to read.

“I asked someone to send me a few reactions, and I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh,’ ” she said.

While nowhere in the article does it actually say “meh,” possibly because it wasn’t written by a “Simpsons” fan circa the turn of the century, we’re pretty sure she’s referring to this article here. The writer of the piece, the inimitable Brian Phares, pointed out right up front that we aren’t even sure if this is the costume’s final form or not, but nonetheless, it appears to have gotten the new Catwoman’s cosign.

avengersIf you’re all about “The Avengers,” then Cleveland is the place to be. The Ohio city is now where the superhero flick is being filmed, and word is that a big battle will be shot here. Odds are it will be the biggest battle of the film and appear toward the end.

Midwest Movie Maker has the goods, and while a friend of the writer works as an extra, nothing super secret is revealed because the extra is keeping tightlipped. As disappointing as that may sound to readers, it’s the honest thing to do. The site does give us some other information, like the fact that rehearsals have already been going on, getting the actors ready for Monday's scheduled start date.

The extra reported that Joss Whedon is a friendly guy and most, if not all, of the main actors are already in Cleveland. That means residents may get to see movie stars walking around their streets between shots. What might be the most interesting part, though, is the promise of the big battle.

A movie like this is guaranteed to have a big battle, but now it seems we can pinpoint it to Cleveland, so it ought to be especially fun to watch filming there. Apparently there will be lots of explosions in the downtown area, where quite a bit of the superhero action is happening.

Are you looking forward to seeing “The Avengers”? Do we have any Cleveland locals in the audience? Let us know in the comments section or on Twitter!

The “ThunderCats” reboot has begun airing on Cartoon Network, bringing back the iconic characters with a new twist. Will Friedle of “Boys Meets World” voices Lion-O, and as someone who was a big fan of the '80s show, he sounds thrilled to be involved.

Speaking with Newsarama, he said, “I think it's been 20, 25 years, the characters are still vibrant, and still iconic, and I think enough time has passed now to where some of the original fans might have accepted a new version a little bit easier than had they done it five years after the show had ended.”

Friedle also believes this “ThunderCats” can be darker than the original, and that more people would be accepting of that. He credits the dark cartoon “Batman: The Animated Series” for this change.

Rise of the Planet of the ApesThe rebooted "Planet of the Apes" franchise proved to be a juggernaut in theaters over the weekend, and the tweet reactions it received show why. Jhonen Vasquez claimed to have accidentally stumbled into a different ape film, but I've got my doubts about that.

Rafael Kayanan seemed to dig it, though. Find out why, see how Brian Michael Bendis feels about recent events in "Entourage," and understand why Cheez-Its creep out Jim Lee down below.
