If you were in New York City over Labor Day weekend and thought you saw two Asgardian warriors, two agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a goateed billionaire and a star-spangled superhero, don't worry... you're not crazy. (Probably.)

Instead, you probably just witnessed "The Avengers" in action. Joss Whedon's superhero flick was shooting in Manhattan this past weekend, and numerous set photos (including the one you can see above) have appeared online showcasing Earth's Mightiest Heroes in all of their glory.

Anne Hathaway's first appearance as Catwoman may not have impressed everybody, but make no mistake about it: the occasional Selina Kyle can kick your butt and still have time to eat a snack.

Despite the production's shift from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles, there are still numerous "Dark Knight Rises" set photos to pour over, albeit somewhat less spoilery than the ones we've seen previously. Today's installment of What's Up With The Bat? involves Hathaway on the "Dark Knight" set fighting crime with something delicious.

Clark GreggThose of you familiar with Joss Whedon's body of work know that the guy likes to break his favorite toys. Stunning deaths are all the rage in the Whedonverse, so "Avengers" fans aren't without some cause for concern when approaching next summer's Marvel Studios epic.

In particular, many fans have started sweating bullets over the fate of Agent Phil Coulson, the S.H.I.E.L.D. suit who has appeared in many of the Marvel movies already. A beloved character without too many ties to Marvel Universe continuity? Seems like a pretty easy target for Whedon. But according to Clark Gregg, the actor who plays Coulson, you shouldn't start eulogizing the S.H.I.E.L.D. mainstay just yet.

"I’ve read this! I’ve read this," Gregg told Crave Online, speaking to the persistent rumors that Coulson could bite the dust in "The Avengers." "I’m flattered that people care, but I wish they would stop saying this because they’re going to put it in somebody’s mind! I’m talking to them about doing 'Iron Man 3' right now, and somebody’s going 'Maybe Agent Coulson should die,' and I’m like, 'Hey, hey, hey! This is the best job I’ve ever had! Stop talking about killing Agent Coulson off.'"

As much as I try to avoid spoilers, all the set photos and videos leaked from "The Avengers" are just too much fun to ignore. Not to mention the brief teases we've had from the cast and director Joss Whedon throughout the last few months. My favorite of the bunch is Tom Hiddleston, aka Loki, who is such a wonderfully warm and pleasant fellow, you almost can't believe that he's for real.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Hiddleston recently to discuss the upcoming Blu-ray release of "Thor" (out on September 13). We also got to chat about his "gangster" new costume, a set photo that leaked for which he did not receive the appropriate credit, and the challenge of playing nice during fight scenes with his fellow cast members. Check out what he had to say past the jump!

The AvengersLabor Day weekend has arrived, and most of the creators in our feed seem to have been ramping up their output in anticipation. Kevin Colden, meanwhile, is hoping to catch a glimpse of "The Avengers" filming in New York over the three-day holiday.

Elsewhere, Gail Simone opened up to the idea of seeing "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," and Jimmy Palmiotti offered some thoughts up for anyone going to see "Conan." All of that, along with some more George Lucas reactions and Rick Remender's brilliant response to his haters made our favorite tweets list of the morning.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for September 2, 2011.

The Walking DeadIt seems like an understatement to say that it was surprising when "The Walking Dead" showrunner Frank Darabont left the show and was replaced with executive producer Glen Mazzara.

Fortunately the show is in capable albeit different hands, and Mazzara has a solid plan of how he wants to go forward with the series, which returns on October 16 with a 90-minute season premiere.

AMC released an interview with Mazzara as part of their Dispatches From the Set series. In it, he discusses how his family reacted to hearing he was named "The Walking Dead's" showrunner -- his son has been pitching him a lot of creative ways to kill zombies at the dinner table -- and how season two's arc compares to season one's.

(Hint: the zombies are still scary.)

Spider-ManMarc Webb knows he's got big shoes to fill. But he sees a need for those red boots to be filled again.

The "(500) Days of Summer" director sat down with Total Film at Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming superhero film "The Amazing Spider-Man." Webb said he felt that Spider-Man as a character is so much a part of our culture that he belongs on the big screen, even though he was last up there not too long ago.

"Spidey is constantly re-examined and there’s way too many versions of him in the comics... That was something I thought we could do cinematically," Webb said. "I was a little skeptical at first – you feel the presence of those other movies. But then I was like, 'How could I walk away from this? What an opportunity!' What better cinematic character is there than Spidey!"

Stellan SkarsgardAnyone who stayed after the credits in "Thor" (or who has been keeping up with "The Avengers" filming) knows that Stellan Skarsgard is going to be returning as Dr. Eric Selvig in the upcoming Marvel film. But little do they know that he almost didn't participate in "The Avengers" because of Marvel's usage of 3-D cameras.

The post-credits sequence for "Thor" was shot by "Avengers" director Joss Whedon using 3-D cameras, which Skarsgard described as "a horrible contraption with two cameras and the mirror and stuff" in an interview with I Am Rogue. Apparently the experience was so awful, he almost didn't stay with the movie.

"I was considering not wanting to do the film if we were going to shoot it with machinery like that. But they decided to shoot 'The Avengers' now on the small electric cameras and then digitally make the 3D afterwards, which is much more comfortable," he said. "I prefer to work with light and fast equipment because as an actor if you have to wait twenty minutes every time they change a lens the energy sort of fades out of the performance."

Hugh JackmanWith "The Wolverine" start date pushed back to spring 2012, Fox has plenty of time to tinker with the latest installment of the X-Men film series. They already are making one such change by hiring Mark Bomback to rewrite Christopher McQuarrie's script for the movie.

Variety is reporting that the "Jack the Giant Killer" and "Total Recall" scribe is being brought on to bring his vision to the project. The story so far finds Wolverine suffering from amnesia, trying to find answers about his past in Japan's criminal underworld.

This is just one of several overhauls "The Wolverine" has undergone since Darren Aronofsky first left the project.

The Walking DeadTime for a little bit of good news, bad news in the world of "The Walking Dead -- though in fairness, it's a game we're used to playing these days, isn't it? Today's installment isn't nearly as devastating as the Frank Darabont departure, thankfully, though some fans are certainly going to be disappointed.

Beginning with the good news: the show officially has a season premiere date, bowing on October 16 with a 90-minute premiere episode. That's almost twice the zombie-killing action, almost a full year after the first season wrapped its run.

Here's the bad news: the second season, despite clocking in at an expanded 13 episodes, is being split into two halves, with six episodes following October's season premiere, and the final six installments of the season kicking off in February. You're still getting all the "Walking Dead" action you crave, just not quite as quickly as you might like.
