Do you want to see six minutes from the "The Dark Knight Rises"? Do you want to see the clip seven months before the movie hits theaters? Do you want to see the advanced footage on IMAX?
You can stop screaming "YES" at your computer screen because you might get that chance this December.
Citing an anonymous source that supposedly works in a theater, Slash Film reports that all of the IMAX prints of "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" will feature a six minute-long prologue to "The Dark Knight Rises" when the film hits theaters on December 16. The source gave no information about the content of the clip, but suggested that the preview would work similarly to how the introduction of the Joker from "The Dark Knight" played before "I Am Legend."
We reached out to Warner Bros. for a statement on the rumor, but a rep declined to comment. Paramount, the studio behind "Mission: Impossible," has yet to answer our request.
Given what we know about the film—extremely little—it's difficult to say what material a prologue could potentially cover. All of the promotional material so far has focused on the literal crumbling of Gotham City. With signs pointing to massive destruction, a prologue could update the audience on just how bad things have gotten in the city. If the clip turns out to be more in-line with what audiences saw before "I Am Legend," the introduction of Bane or the re-introduction of the League of Shadows—if rumors are to be believed—is a definite possibility.
Regardless of the storyline, plan on the clip being one that highlights the advantages of the IMAX format. "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" features several scenes shot in IMAX and the first live-action work from director Brad Bird. "The Dark Knight" also included a handful of IMAX scenes, and this time around, director Christopher Nolan shot even more footage for the bigger screen version.
If a prologue does in fact play before "Mission: Impossible," as a preview exclusively for IMAX screens, expect it to be a big, beautiful teaser for what's in store for Batman come July 20, 2012
