Now that everyone's had time to digest the "Avengers" trailer from two weeks ago, (if you haven't, do so now!) MTV News asked Tom Hiddleston, who plays the villain set to face off against Earth's Mightiest Heroes, to talk about his role in the trailer and just how Loki gets to Earth this time around.
One of the biggest scenes from the trailer is arguably a threatening shot of Loki in some sort of portal as military personnel close in. Hiddleston confirmed that this scene is Loki's big arrival to Earth for "The Avengers." Hiddleston comments that, "He's landed."
The last time we saw Loki, at the end of "Thor," he was falling into the abyss after the destruction of the Rainbow Bridge, but Hiddleston says that a line just before the final battle between the royal brothers is a telling hint. "There's a line in 'Thor' I remember saying to Idris Elba's Heimdall, 'There are secret powers between worlds to which even you, with all your gifts, are blind,'" Hiddleston says.
Hiddleston's answer begs for more questions. Who built the portal Loki uses? What/who else is capable of coming through? It's possible that Loki's army that has been tangentially referred to and hinted at by Hiddleston are also coming through this portal, but it is still much too early to say.
There is so much more we need to know, but we'll all find out when the Avengers finally assemble and hit theaters May 4, 2012.
