Joss Whedon

Like many of you, I've been waiting for years for "The Avengers" to assemble on the big screen. I've seen myself cheering, hooting, hollering, holding my breath, even laughing at the hopefully frequent Whedonisms littered throughout the movie.

But giggling? Can't say I've pictured that — which makes it all the more hilarious that Joss Whedon, the man who directed the Marvel Studios team-up, apparently giggled his way through the entire shoot.

Arkham City

"Batman: Arkham City" has earned some of the highest critical praise of any game this year, so it's no surprise that the action-adventure title is also selling incredibly well. Only a week after release, the game has already shattered the comparative sales figures of its predecessor, "Batman: Arkham Asylum." The holiday gaming season is still coming on strong, with a new "Call of Duty" title waiting in the wings, but "Arkham City" will likely stand as one of the best sellers of 2011.

According to Warner Bros., "Arkham City" managed to ship 4.6 million units worldwide during its first week. That's double what "Arkham Asylum" shipped during its launch week back in 2009.

The Dark Knight Rises

Bruce Wayne is sticking with the one percent, it seems, as "The Dark Knight Rises" won't be occupying Wall Street after all.

Reports that Christopher Nolan would potentially be shooting portions of his final Batman movie in New York City's Zuccotti Park — the home base for the New York chapter of the Occupy Wall Street movement — have turned out to be false. According to Entertainment Weekly, a Warner Bros. representative has shot down the rumor, saying that there are no plans for "The Dark Knight Rises" to film scenes in Zuccotti Park.

It's hard to imagine "Thor" without Chris Hemsworth playing the titular character, but had things gone a little differently during the casting process, it could have as easily been baddie Tom Hiddleston carrying Mjölnir. Apparently the man better known as Loki had originally auditioned for the role of Thor in the film, but ended up being cast as the villain instead.

MTV News caught up with Hiddleston recently and asked him whether he had always been up for both of the roles. He said that he had, and admitted that he didn't know which character he would end up playing until the final audition.

Superman

Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" is currently shooting in Vancouver, and the outpouring of shirtless/bearded Henry Cavill set pics has been seemingly endless. Today is no exception, and I simply can't write another post about the half-naked Cavill. Henry, please, put a shirt on. We know you're jacked, we know you're going to kick some ass, but seriously... me, my pathetically doughy body and my fragile ego simply can't take any further bare-chested photos of the future Superman!

The same can't be said for my pal Amy Wilkinson, editor of Hollywood Crush, who tackled today's latest "Man of Steel" photos head on. Click over to our sister blog to read Amy's take on the Last Son of Krypton's latest fashion statement.

Coward

Ed Brubaker has a new writing task on his hands: adapting “Coward,” the first part of his “Criminal” series, for the big screen. Hunting Lane Films, which has made “Sugar” and “Half Nelson,” has acquired rights to the work and has already set up “Eclipse” director David Slade to direct the movie.

Brubaker spoke to Variety about the situation, describing the Marvel-published story of “Coward” this way: “It's a heist story, partly -- it's a lot of different crime stories wrapped in one, but heist stories are always exciting if they're pulled off correctly."

Red

If you're a fan of retired and extremely dangerous assassins, you're going to really like this news.

"Red 2," the developing sequel to the 2010 action comedy starring Bruce Willis and John Malkovich as former spies who find themselves on the run after a kill order is sent down the pipeline, officially has a release date. Summit Entertainment has scheduled the movie to arrive on August 2, 2013, just two short months after the release of another DC Comics movie, Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel."

Tintin

"The Adventures of Tintin" is still a few weeks away from its release here in the United States, but it's already hitting theaters today in several lucky countries abroad including France, Belgium, Denmark and the United Kingdom.

Reviews have been pouring in already, and the word on director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson's adaptation of the beloved Hergé-penned stories is good. Very, very good. So good, in fact, that Spielberg and Jackson are already thinking about where to take "Tintin" next.

Don't let appearances fool you: despite Nicolas Cage's continued involvement with the franchise, there is a new "Ghost Rider" in town. The Oscar-winning actor's second turn as the "Rider" comes courtesy of "Crank" directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who already gave us a burning taste of their uniquely twisted vision when Cage peed fire at the end of the first "Spirit of Vengeance" trailer.

The unforgettable moment won't be relegated to the "Ghost Rider" trailer, either. I spoke with Neveldine/Taylor last week after New York Comic Con, and the directing duo confirmed that Johnny Blaze's blazing urine is absolutely featured in the film.

"It's in the movie and that's all we can tell you," teased Neveldine, who wouldn't say any more on the subject. But he and Taylor were more than happy to get into the specifics of Blaze's new assortment of weaponry, which includes his ability to "hellify" not just his motorcycle, but anything he attempts to ride.

The Dark Knight Rises

"The Dark Knight Rises" prologue — the one that's supposedly playing in front of "Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol" IMAX showings this December — is inching ever closer to reality.

Though still not officially confirmed, a new report indicates that the six-minute "Dark Knight Rises" teaser is very much happening, albeit on less IMAX screens than initially imagined. Click here for all the details. We'll wait for official word before getting too excited about an early look at Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie, but we can't contain ourselves completely.

To that end, we hit up some of our movie and comic book pals from around the blogosphere to weigh in on what they're hoping and expecting to see from the most-likely-happening "Dark Knight Rises" prologue. See what they had to say after the jump!
