FROM MTV MOVIES: This holiday season, fans looking forward to next year's release of "The Dark Knight Rises" should be thankful for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and all the press its star Gary Oldman is doing.

MTV News' Josh Horowitz caught up with Oldman, who stars in both of those films, on the red carpet for the Gotham Independent Film Awards and noticed something different about his face. The iconic Commissioner Gordon mustache was missing. After wrapping the film recently, Oldman lost the mustache in favor of a cleaner look.

"The Gordon mustache is retired," Oldman confirmed. "They gave me a shadow box, and it has my badge, my glasses and the mustache. He is retired."

Akira

The planned American remake of "Akira" has been a controversial project for many reasons, but no matter your stance, it's looking more and more likely that this movie is actually going to happen. Casting decisions have been made -- Garrett Hedlund is locked as Kaneda, for one, while a bevy of actors (including "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart) are circling other key roles -- and now, an alleged casting call has leaked that, if accurate, spills the beans on the adaptation's plot.

Check out the spoilery "Akira" synopsis past the jump, courtesy of Acting Auditions and Bleeding Cool.

Alex Ross SupermanThe most desirable comic of all time sits on the auction block today, and it’s already become the most valuable. It also probably belongs to Nic Cage, for now.

Bleeding Cool reports that an auction for an issue of Action Comics #1 graded at 9.0—the best an issue of Action #1 has ever been graded by the CGC—has already surpassed the record for most expensive comic ever at $1,552,000, with hours left to go.

This past April an exceptionally pristine copy of Action Comics #1—the first comic to feature Superman—was recovered by Los Angeles police from a San Fernando Valley storage locker. The comic had been missing since 2000, when it was stolen from the house of Nicolas Cage, perhaps the most rabid, or at least most famous, Superman fan of all time.

Arkham City

A couple days ago we told you about the new "Batman: Arkham City" downloadable content, featuring a new challenge map taking place in the Dark Knight's own digs. What we couldn't tell you was what the Batcave would look like in-game. Well, great news: thanks to the fine folks over at GameTrailers, the first images of the new environment have surfaced.

As it turns out, my suspicions in regards to the presentation of the "Arkham City" Batcave were fairly accurate. Based on thirty-seconds or so of video footage presented during GTTV's "GameStop Unwrapped" special, Wayne's lair is pretty much what you would expect.

OldboyFor fans of the original manga and the live-action adaptation by Chan-wook Park, an American retelling of "Oldboy" has always been a hard thing to imagine. There was no way the proposed Will Smith version could embrace the dark overtones of the story to satisfy fans. How watered-down would it be?

Adding director Spike Lee to the equation, certainly gave fans more hope for the final product, but only complicated the matter further.

Spike Lee would inevitably inject a lot of his own style into the story, which is far from familiar territory for the auteur. What would a Spike Lee-directed "Oldboy" look like?

AvengersThe long awaited team up shot of a long awaited comic book super team movie typically presents its iconic characters poised to brandish their most formidable assets to an excitable audience.

The team composite promo for “The Avengers” is no exception, featuring Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Captain America ready to spring into action with their assorted weapons. Recessed furthest into the background, lone female Black Widow threatens opposition with her most visible component—a round shiny rump.

You may not have even noticed this when the poster debuted in August. After all, it’s fairly emblematic to place emphasis on a female’s anatomical wonders in the context of comic books, as well as comic book movies.

But what of the other heroes' butts? Are they not also formidable weapons of intense distraction?

Artist Kevin Bolk has redrawn the “Avengers” team promo shot to turn the tables on the traditional composite, placing emphasis on the rolling hills and valleys of the male Avengers’ ignored posteriors. The official tumblr of Cracked features a side-by-side comparison of the original promo image and Bolk’s parody. Check it out yourself after the jump.

"The Dark Knight Rises" prologue has been officially confirmed by Christopher Nolan, and based on his comments, we already know that -- spoiler alert -- it reveals the first six minutes of the movie, introducing audiences to Tom Hardy's menacing Bane for the very first time.

Now, even more possible details have emerged over at Rama's Screen by way of a very detailed, but quite possibly very fake, prologue synopsis. Get the full scoop past the jump.

Arkham City

Few animated television shows have such an iconic art style as "The Simpsons." After 23 seasons, almost anyone can immediately identify the show's yellow-skin, extended upper-lip, and overall look – even if that character has never actually appeared in a single episode. Imagine, for example, the cast of "Batman: Arkham City" were to show up in Springfield tomorrow. What would they look like?

Bringing celebrities and pop culture icons to the Simpsons' universe is the hobby of artist Dean Fraser. His blog, Springfield Punx, has given the Groening treatment to characters like Martian Manhunter and the X-Men, but this week Fraser dedicated his posts to turning the "Arkham City" version of Batman's biggest personalities yellow.

Kenneth Branagh

Kenneth Branagh was always an inspired choice as the director for "Thor." Even when Marvel first announced his involvement, the collaboration felt simultaneously unexpected and entirely natural, and when the film finally opened in theaters, critics praised Branagh for bringing his Shakespearean experience to the table and making a movie that took itself seriously, but not too seriously.

The quality of the end result was no coincidence. In a recent interview with Variety, Branagh talked about his experiences with the production and his love of the story.
