Get ready for the surprise of the year: "Batman: Arkham City" is in the running for basically every Game of the Year award everywhere. The annual Spike Video Game Awards are no exception, where "Arkham City" is up for more than just the biggest honor. Rocksteady's game received 10 nominations for the upcoming award show, only trailing behind "Portal 2" for the most nominations of any game.
Valve's "Portal 2" received 12 nominations, leading the pack of potential GOTY nominees which also includes "Arkham City," "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword," and "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception."
The VGA's are the gaming industry's annual award show, honoring the best in gaming every year. The awards are decided upon by an advisory council made up of journalists from the majority of major gaming publications. It's a spectacle every year – sometimes great, sometimes incredibly corny – but there's usually some exciting new game announcements and trailers during the program. In fact, a brand new "Arkham City" trailer debuted during last year's show.
Besides the GOTY nod, "Arkham City" is also nominated for Best Xbox 360 Game, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Adapted Video Game, Best Original Score, Best Graphics, Best Performance By A Human Male (Mark Hamill), Best Performance By A Human Female (Tara Strong), Studio of the Year (Rocksteady), and Trailer of the Year.
The show airs live, December 10 on Spike. You can head over to the official site right now and cast your viewer vote for all of the categories.
