A paramount day in the world of breaking news from... a Pez dispenser.
The visage of Rhys Ifans' transformed Curt Connors aka The Lizard from "The Amazing Spider-Man" made its public debut on the famous candy dishing device. An image of two officially licensed Pez dispensers for the upcoming Sony reboot of the Spider-Man franchise showed up online early this morning with both Spider-Man and the film's main villain, The Lizard.
When director Marc Webb premiered footage from the movie this past summer at San Diego Comic-Con, the preview ended with a quick glimpse at The Lizard, who will appear in the film as mostly CGI in his transformed mode. What fans saw at Comic-Con matches the bust on the Pez dispenser to a point, but Russ Fischer over at /Film said he thought the actual Lizard from the movie was "a bit more overtly monstrous."
The Pez Lizard looks more humanistic than more recent iterations of the character, which tend to give him a longer snout. This version takes a note from Steve Ditko's take on the character, giving him a rounder head and flatter features.
This is but the latest example in an ongoing saga of secret movie character being outed by silly merchandise. Two years ago when "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" kept the look of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Cobra Commander close to the vest, art from the children's toy "Combat Heroes" box gave it all away before the movie hit theaters.
