BoilerplateIn July of last year, J.J. Abrams picked up the rights to “Boilerplate,” and now his company Bad Robot — along with Paramount Pictures, which is producing — has hired the necessary writers to take the next step forward.

According to Deadline, Patrick McKay and JD Payne have been tapped for the job. They’re the same writers behind “Goliath,” a movie in the works that’s based on the story of David and Goliath that’s being compared to “300.” In addition to that, they’re working on a movie adaptation of Spike TV’s “Deadliest Warrior.”

For months, several people involved with this past summer's "X-Men: First Class" batted around possibilities for a second film, but now Fox has reportedly hired Simon Kinberg to pen a sequel to the X-Men prequel, according to Superhero Hype.

Though the film is far from green lit, this is the first step toward an actual production. If the film does eventually get in front of the cameras, both leads James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are expected to return as the young Professor X and Magneto, respectively. There has been no word given on whether director Matthew Vaughn will return for any potential sequel.

MTV News spoke with Fassbender about the prospects of a sequel, and the actor said that he had come up with some ideas with his co-star, McAvoy.

PopeyePopeye doesn’t just gain strength from spinach — he gains strength from good writing. Sony Pictures Animation, which is bringing the iconic cartoon strongman to the big screen, has asked David Ronn and Jay Scherick to pen the script.

Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man” just isn’t done with New York. And why should he be? The web slinger is as close to his New Yorker identity as he is to that taught spandex suit. But even superheroes don’t get everything right the first time, and as it turns out, director Marc Webb’s leaner, realist rehash of Spidey’s story needs to visit home base again for some second unit re-shoots.

Garrett Hedlund

"Akira" got the official go ahead from Warner Bros. late last month, and reports pegged "Tron Legacy" actor Garrett Hedlund as the front runner for the lead role of Kaneda. Turns out those reports were right on the money.

Twitch reported this morning that WB has made a formal offer to Hedlund to star in director Jaume Collet-Serra's adaptation of the widely adored anime and manga series. Variety corroborates the report, saying that the "Tron" actor is now in negotiations to play the badass biker.

Cowboys & Aliens

In what can only be described as a shocking instance of candidness, Universal chief Ron Meyer spoke to a crowd at the Savannah Film Festival and skewered several of the studio's most recent big-budget flops, as well as discussing why those films just didn't work.

As he explained it: "We make a lot of sh---y movies. Every one of them breaks my heart."

During his talk at the festival, Meyer opened up about a number of recent Universal titles. Movieline was there and asked him specifically about the critically and financially underwhelming comic book adaptation "Cowboys & Aliens" and the poorly-received "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."

"The Adventures of Tintin" is a massive critical and commercial hit over seas, but it has yet to make it to American shores. It seemed as though those of us in the United States were going to have to wait for the movie's December stateside release date to see what the fuss is about, but it turns out some Americans will get to check out the secret of the unicorn a little bit earlier than that.

Walking Dead

"The Walking Dead" isn't shy when it comes to putting its cast through the wringer. Already this season we've seen a man ripped to bits by a horde of walkers, a child was shot in the chest and another little one has vanished without a trace.

It's that latter victim, Sophia Peletier (played by the talented Madison Lintz), that we're currently most concerned with. Where has Sophia gone? Will we see her again — and if we do, will she still be among the living, or will she have joined the ranks of the undead?

AMC caught up with actress Melissa McBride, who plays Sophia's mother Carol, and talked about the child's disappearance this season.
