Spider-Man

If you missed Saturday Night Live this weekend, you missed a pretty sweet “The Amazing Spider-Man” plug. But don’t worry — it’s not too late to watch the funny clip.

NBC has posted guest Emma Stone’s opening monologue where she mentions that she’s going to be in “The Amazing Spider-Man” as Gwen Stacy — and don’t you dare mix her up with Mary Jane Watson. Before she can finish talking about the movie, Andy Samberg slips onscreen — upside down and in a Spider-Man outfit.

Dark Knight Rises

"Dark Knight Rises" plot rumors are a dime a dozen these days, but some are more interesting than others. Like today's pair of rumors, for instance. One of them covers what we might see in the "Dark Knight Rises" prologue, while the other potentially speaks towards the movie's greater plot line.

Make sure you bring your salt shakers as we engage some POSSIBLE SPOILERS past the jump.

adamsWhen an actor or actress takes on an iconic role that’s been played a number of times before, he or she also has to take on the weight of how the new performance will stack up. Should you emulate previous actors, try something totally new, or go with a mixture?

That’s what IGN wanted to know about Amy Adams’s portrayal of Lois Lane in “Man of Steel.” When asked if she were influenced by previous Lois Lanes or if she were treating this as a clean slate, Adams replied, “Yeah, I treat it like a clean slate. I mean, I come from theater where people play the same role over and over again. And so I’ve always approached acting that way.”

'Ghost Projekt'Ratings are up for SyFy, and the channel is developing three new shows: “Ghost Projekt,” “Seeing Things” and an as-yet-untitled Robert H. Wolfe drama.

Of the three, “Ghost Projekt” would probably interest Splash Page readers the most because it’s based on a comic book series. Released in 2010, the Oni Press-published series stars Will Haley, an American weapons inspector, and Anya Romanova, a KGB agent, as they track down a very dangerous stolen weapon. They’re often described as being an “unlikely” team, but of course those teams are the most fun in fiction. Coming to us from Joe Harris and Steve Rolston, the comic has released five issues.

The Hollywood Reporter gave us the heads up on this development, but there’s not a whole lot of news on it yet. Brett Matthews, a writer for “Supernatural,” has been hired both as a script writer and an executive producer for “Ghost Projekt.” The other executive producers hired are Eric Gitter and Andy Bourne. That’s about all the news that’s been released on the project for now, but hopefully soon we’ll have some more concrete information.

Not again! “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has had another bump in the road. This time Matthew James Thomas, who plays Spidey on the Wednesday and Saturday matinees, suffered a head injury this week during the performance.

Newsday, which reported on the injury, was unable to say how exactly Thomas got hurt because the producers aren’t saying much about it themselves. The article did say that he had to go to the hospital for stitches and the producers of the show portrayed the injury as “minor.” The producers also made it clear that he wasn’t hit in the head by anything.

Michael Rooker

There are rumors running about that Merle Dixon — the one-handed redneck played to perfection by veteran character actor Michael Rooker — is heading back to "The Walking Dead" before long, perhaps as soon as this week's installment. Rooker himself won't comment on when he's coming back, but he promises that no matter the time frame, there's no escaping more Merle at some point down the line.

"Nobody expected this level of Merle worship," Rooker told Hero Complex about anticipation for his "Walking Dead" character's return. "He's such an out-there, crazy, anything goes kind of guy. There’s an uncertainty about Merle – like he’ll come back when you least expect it. He’s the boogeyman, and viewers love that suspense. The number one question I’m asked is, 'When is your character coming back?’ I can’t say when, but I promise it’ll be a wild ride."

Whether or not it's fair, the comparison is there: there are undeniable similarities between Zack Snyder's revered "300" and Tarsem Singh's "Immortals," out in theaters today. For one, both are extremely stylized swords-and-sandals epics. For another, the producers behind "Immortals" are the same ones behind "300." On top of that, "300" is based on a graphic novel, while "Immortals" also sports a completely original comic book counterpart.

The gauntlet has already been thrown down by our friends at NextMovie, who claim that "Immortals" is more badass than "300." Big words, of course, but inaccurate words? That's subject to debate. I can't speak for everybody, but having seen both films, I can speak for myself. Click on past the jump to see which movie — "Immortals" or "300" — I personally prefer, pound for pound.

Spider-Man

"The Amazing Spider-Man" hasn't even swung into theaters yet and already we're seeing video game screenshots, action figures and more. Interest in the next big-screen outing for Peter Parker is very high, but is it so high that we've already forgotten the Sam Raimi "Spider-Man" trilogy of yesterday? Star Kirsten Dunst certainly hopes not.

"I don't feel that way," the actress told Moviefone when asked if she thought people would forget about her "Spider-Man" once the Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reboot arrives next summer. "I feel what we did was special and I don't think that goes away. I don't think so."

Dark Knight Rises

When news broke that the MPAA had given a rating to the rumored "Dark Knight Rises" prologue, it joined the other red flags signaling the preview's existence. Though it hasn't been officially confirmed yet, the prologue will supposedly run in front of 70mm prints of "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" starting on December 16. The MPAA dished out a PG-13 rating for "some violence," but offered no other hints about the contents of the clip.

This is a good start. The PG-13 rating for "some violence" does, in fact, signal a few things. We are going to get "some action," at the very least. This won't be a dialogue scene, updating the audience on Gotham's infrastructure since the end of "Dark Knight." We're going to get some good old-fashioned PG-13 action, and as blockbusters love to remind us, you can do a lot with PG-13 nowadays.

But what kind of violence are we talking about?

If "Batman: Arkham City" takes its thematic elements from the more somber tales of the Dark Knight, "Gotham City Impostors" might be loosely based on some wonderfully weird Bob Kane fever dream. Since playing a match at E3 this summer, I've waited with anticipation to spend more time with the upcoming online, competitive multiplayer game. Today comes news of not only an official release date, but an open beta for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users.
