The Avengers

Are you starving for clips from "The Avengers”? It’s hard not to be, but try to hold onto yourself -- the movie comes out in less than half a year, and won’t the wait just be so satisfying?

But if you need a few more glimpses, check out this recently-posted Russian trailer for the film. You won’t be able to understand a darn thing (unless you're fluent in Russian, of course), but the images come across just fine. Besides, "HULK SMASH" is multilingual!

Fans of Garth Ennis' violent comic-book series, "The Boys," are well-aware of one principal character's resemblance to Simon Pegg. In fact, series artist Darick Robertson has acknowledged that Scottish-brogue-spewing Hugh "Wee Hughie" Campbell was actually modeled after the "Shaun of the Dead" star. So, perhaps it's no surprise that Adam McKay, reportedly helming the planned film adaptation, would love to see Pegg in the role – assuming the film makes it to the screen.

Speaking to MTV News, Pegg acknowledged his interest in the part – even stating that he's read the script – but worries that he's possibly "too old" to play Wee Hughie.

Marvel

When it comes to videogame-related news, there's two times a year when things slow to an absolute crawl. The first being the middle of summer, and the second being – well, this whole week. Of course, after the New Year arrives, we're sure to get inundated with the hubbub of things to come, but in the meantime news about avatar clothes will have to suffice.

Just before the holiday, Marvel announced the release of some superhero-themed shirts, props, and other paraphernalia for the Xbox Live avatar marketplace. The good news? You can finally adorn your digital doppelganger with giant Hulk hands.

Stan Lee

Stan Lee turned 89 years young today, if you can believe it. The Marvel Comics impresario has been around for almost forever, through World War II and Vietnam and Iraq, from Captain America to the X-Men and beyond.

At an age when most are comfortably retired, Lee continues to stick around in the public eye. Just last year, he hosted a History Channel documentary series, “Stan Lee’s Superheroes.” He continues to show up in every Marvel movie, even though the rights are spread across a handful of studios. Exclusive intellectual property rights don’t hold a candle to being Stan the Man, the guy who started it all.

Joker

With "The Dark Knight Rises" almost upon us—and by almost I mean a criminally long seven months away—most of our attention has gone to Bane, Batman's new nemesis played by Tom Hardy. But while we're busy obsessing over Bane's strange voice and the will-he or won't-he back-breaking issue, there's one thing we can be absolutely certain about: Bruce Wayne's greatest foe, The Joker, is already behind us.

Many fans will agree that Heath Ledger's Joker, played to Oscar-winning heights by the late actor, remains the single greatest villain ever to appear in a Batman movie. Though we've seen the last of his interpretation of the Clown Prince of Crime, some unused "Dark Knight" footage of Ledger as the Joker has started making the rounds again thanks to Kevin Smith's always entertaining Twitter feed.

This isn't exactly new, but hey, it's a slow week, and any chance to spend more time with Ledger's Joker is a chance we'll take. Check it out after the jump.

Avengers

Tom Hiddleston has had an excellent year, what with roles in "Thor," "Midnight in Paris" and "War Horse." But believe it or not, the man who can count Kenneth Branagh, Woody Allen and Steven Spielberg among the directors he's worked with might be on the verge of an even bigger 2012, thanks to his status as the lead bad guy in "Marvel's The Avengers."

Hiddleston once again plays Loki in the film, and as the central force of villainy against a crew of Marvel's greatest superheroes, you know it's a given that the British actor will go toe-to-toe against the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

It's the latter actor that Hiddleston seems most excited about engaging in fisticuffs, as the actor gushed about his "Avengers" fight scene against RDJ in a new interview with NY Daily News.

New "Dark Knight Rises" photos? Don't mind if we do!

We’ve already seen some of these images from "The Dark Knight Rises," but not this nicely. Magazine scans and blog leaks don’t account for the fine detailing on Bane’s back, nor the wide angle view on a motorcycle-riding Catwoman.

There’s one photo of Bane, looking a little grimmer (and infinitely more jacked) than the other images we've seen, clutching his arms and looking downward, like he’s about to bomb a football field or file a really firm complaint with the DMV. (One of those two.)

The Avengers

Following in the steps of "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger," Disney announced that "The Avengers" will be released in both 3D and 2D. This should come as a surprise to no one, as director Joss Whedon has apparently been planning on the post-conversion into three dimensions since before he started filming the movie.

JoBlo caught up with the director after the announcement was made. He sought to calm any skeptics of 3D by saying that "'The Avengers' isn't obnoxiously 3D." Whedon went on to say that he thought of the conversion process "every second" while filming so the 3D will have a clear place in the movie.

"There's no, 'Oh look, we're going to spend 20 minutes going through this tunnel because it's in 3D!' And no one is pointing at the screen the entire time. But it's an action movie. Things tend to hurtle toward the screen anyway," he explained.
