"Rascal Raccoon's Raging Revenge" is headed to Warner Bros.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the studio has snapped the rights to Oni Press' graphic novel and already has a writer and director lined up. "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" scribe Matt Fogel is attached to adapt the story, while "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas's" Todd Strauss-Schulson is set to direct.
It's somewhat fitting for "Rascal Raccoon" to end up at Warner Bros since the story is a sort of spin on their classic "Looney Tunes" cartoons. The plan is to have the film be a live-action/CGI hybrid.
Brendan Hay and Justin Wagner wrote the graphic novel, which was released in late 2011. The official description reads as follows:
"Welcome to Toonie Terrace, home of the fun-loving Toonies and their jealous, bitter rivals, the Meanies. For all their shenanigans, no Meanie has ever murdered a Toonie… until now. After thousands of painful failed attempts, Rascal Raccoon has finally killed his arch-nemesis, the charming and adorable Jumpin’ Jackalope. Rascal is overjoyed, but there’s one problem: what does he do now? With nothing left to obsess over, Rascal’s life falls apart. Fortunately, he soon finds a new target for his anger: the animator who created him!"
It sounds like this comic adaptation is going to be more for adults than kids, even though it's set in a land called "Toonie Terrace." Strauss-Schulson just might be the perfect for the job then, since "Rascal Raccoon" seems like it might have some humor that's similar in style to "Harold & Kumar's 3D Christmas."
