The Avengers have every right to leave this past weekend with their giant green fist held high in triumph. Marvel's superhero all-star team collected $200.3 million in the US box office debut, but the victory did not come without some loss.
Those who have seen "The Avengers" know by now that not every member of the team made it out alive. War is bloody and senseless, and the heroes of the Marvel universe aren't exempt from that.
We here at MTV News wanted to show our respects to the dearly departed with a respectful, soft fade-filled in memoriam video tribute. Check out our send-off after the jump!
MAJOR "AVENGERS" SPOILERS AHEAD!
Phil Colson believed in heroes, and we believed in him. Starting from his lowly position as the occasionally annoying guys from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, Agent Colson worked his way into our hearts with appearances in all but two of the Marvel Universe movies.
He may be gone, but he is not forgotten...
...since in all likelihood, he'll be back in some form. These are comic book movies after all.
