"The Avengers" may have been a big hit, but what's coming next? We already know that "Iron Man 3," "Thor 2" and "Captain America 2" are on the docket for upcoming Marvel releases, but the studio also has announced that they're planning on releasing movies about some other new Marvel superheroes. Depending on how you interpret a new tweet from Edgar Wright, one of those might be "Ant-Man."
The "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" director tweeted a picture clearly relating to "Ant-Man," along with the tweet, "Received this in the mail. What can it mean?"
What can it mean? Maybe Wright is trying to tease that we're going to be receiving an "Ant-Man" announcement sometime very, very soon.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said last month that "Ant-Man" is "closer" to happening than ever, but we've been hearing things like that a lot over the past few years. Then again, he did previously say that an "Ant-Man" movie would follow "The Avengers." This tweet seems to hint that "Ant-Man" might actually be one of the new movies Marvel is going to announce, but the picture could have just been something Wright got in the mail from a fan or something. Either way, it does seem like we might be seeing the movie soon.
When MTV News caught up with Wright at Comic-Con last year, he and co-writer Joe Cornish were on their third draft of the script. Wright said they were writing it so that any average audience member would be able to enjoy it.
"The way we wrote the script is for it to be a standalone genre film," Wright told. "This should be the same with any kind of adaptation. You shouldn't have to have any prior knowledge of it."
It will be interesting to see if that has changed now that the movie will be coming out after "The Avengers" brought so many superheroes together, but we doubt it has. There likely will be a nod in "Ant-Man" to some of the other Avengers around (just like there potentially was in "The Avengers"), but it's nice to know that the movie won't be dependent upon it.
