The Ninja Turtles are back — and yes, they are both teenage and mutant.
Only a week after the Michael Bay-produced "Ninja Turtles" reboot was put on hold indefinitely, Nickelodeon has released the trailer for their own new TV series, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." The show still doesn't have a release date (it's set to hit the cable channel at some point in the fall), but at least here is proof that Nickelodeon has captured the essence of what made the Turtles awesome to begin with.
The trailer comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly and spends most of its time setting up this incarnation of the Turtles instead of giving us any sense of what the show will be about. Though it's still meant for kids, Nick's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" seems a bit more action-packed than its predecessors. Some of the martial arts moves Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo show off are pretty cool.
EW recently spoke to the show's executive producer, Ciro Neill, and he told them how he wanted this series to fit into the Ninja Turtles mythology. The last "Ninja Turtles" TV series went off the air in 2009.
“I tried to boil it down and get to really what’s at the core of it, which is this sense of brothers and camaraderie," he said. "Everything grew out of that. It’s like a band. You want a Beatles thing.”
