Emma Stone really likes her "The Amazing Spider-Man" character, Gwen Stacy. Like, really likes her, as she has repeatedly said in interviews leading up to the movie's release. The big question, though, is how film audiences will respond to the character when they formerly only knew Mary-Jane Watson as Peter Parker's love interest.
Judging by the initial reactions to "The Amazing Spider-Man," viewers seem to like Stone's Gwen a lot as well. It could partly be because her relationship with Andrew Garfield's Peter is authentic or it could just be that she's a great actress, but people are liking what they're seeing. MTV News had the chance to catch up with Stone at the movie's premiere and asked her how people have responded to her about the role and her performance.
Quick to make a joke, Stone said in a silly way, "Heh, Gwen's really great, and I'm really glad that people like her," poking fun at the fact that most actors find their characters to be "great."
In all seriousness, Stone said she is happy about the way people like Gwen and Peter's relationship, especially with the shadow of what's to come looming over her.
"I'm really happy that people are responding well to the love story, because I think Gwen Stacy is such a special character," she told MTV News on the red carpet. "I really love the character of Gwen Stacy and the comic book history, and then hopefully what it will lead into is very special and important to the 'Spider-Man' saga. So I'm very excited that people seem to be responding well to that. Hopefully."
