A new post on the film's official Facebook page reads: "It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents."
Looks like Sony's got three movies in mind to fully unveil the untold story of Peter Parker and his absentee parents, then. Fine by us; we're big fans of "Amazing Spider-Man" here at MTV Movies headquarters, and can't wait to see more of Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter and Gwen.
Well, we hope not to see too much more of Emma as Gwen, much as we love her. She feels the same way. She recently told us about the character's comic book demise: "I spoke to the people behind the movie, and they said, 'Yeah, we're planning on staying true to the comics.' And I was like, 'If you're making a movie like this, that's something I want to be a part of.'"
"That is so shocking and horrifying and kind of beautiful in some way," she added. "The fact that people unsubscribed and burned their copies — I like anything that causes some kind of upheaval."
For now, at least one "Spider-Man" sequel is on the radar, hitting theaters in May 2014. We'll keep you posted as further details about the "Amazing" trilogy roll in.
