His cameo in "X-Men: First Class" notwithstanding, it's simply been way too long since we've seen Hugh Jackman as Wolverine — in a good film, no less. But after an unfair amount of fits and starts, it appears as if Jackman is finally ready to lace his bones with adamantium one more time.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Jackman is coming to Sydney, Australia "within the next three weeks" to begin work on "The Wolverine," the actor's second solo film starring the fast-healing mutant. Production begins in August, as has been previously reported, but Jackman will reportedly arrive sooner than that.
It's been a long, hard road towards "The Wolverine," which had acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky attached to direct at one point. He ultimately parted ways with the Japan-set non-sequel, leaving the door open for James Mangold to join the project as its new director.
"I think that we are not rebooting, but we are going deeper into something than anyone's ever gone, and we're finding a way to do that in a really original way," the director told MTV News of his work on the film. "I think it's in a place that will be a little more intense than we've ever seen him. In that sense, we'll be examining his look and everything else through that prism. That would affect everything from his level of musculature to his look."
"The Wolverine" arrives on July 26, 2013.
