Emma Stone's take on Gwen Stacy is one of the many reasons we really enjoyed "The Amazing Spider-Man." However, the initial report of Stone's role in the movie was met with varying degrees of confusion and skepticism. "Who the hell is Gwen Stacy?" many people asked. "Since when does Mary Jane have blonde hair?"
Well, this may come as a surprise to some of you, but Spider-Man has had more than just two girlfriends. In fact, there have been well over ten of them by now. After all, Spider-Man is a superhero and superheroes do tend to get around. Like, seriously, do you know how many women Wolverine has been with? We digress.
Here's a list of five of the most notable girls from Spider-Man's past:
Felicia Hardy
Better known as the Black Cat, Felicia Hardy was Pete's first official superhero girlfriend; albeit they were one of those on-again, off-again couples. Unfortunately for Peter, Felicia only ever really liked him because of the fact that he's Spider-Man. Which also probably explains why she refuses to be intimate with him unless he's wearing his costume.
Carlie Cooper
A budding NYPD officer with a great detective mind, Carlie almost figured out that Peter Paker and Spider-Man are the same person on several occasions. Eventually, Pete broke down and told Carlie the truth which, of course, ended their short but sweet relationship. Just when Pete was really starting to like her too; one night when Carlie was out drinking with her friends she ended up getting an impromptu Spider-Man tattoo on her hip.
Betty Brant
Remember how Elizabeth Banks was in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movies as J. Jonah Jameson's secretary? Yeah, that's Betty Brant. In the comic books, Peter dates Betty for quite a while until she begins to blame Spider-Man for her brother's death. After they part ways, Betty ends up marrying another Daily Bugle reporter named Ned Leeds. However, their marriage soon crumbles and Peter Parker is there to pick up the pieces of Betty's broken heart.
Michelle Gonzales
After Pete's roommate Vin is sent to prison for attempting to frame Spider-Man for murder, his older sister Michelle moves in in his stead. Michelle accompanies Peter to his Aunt May's wedding as his date where the two proceed to get very drunk and then hook up later that night. As a result, their living situation becomes very tense with Michelle constantly belittling Peter and even padlocking his refrigerator.
Ms. Marvel
In the comic book universe, Spider-Man is a member of both the Avengers and the New Avengers. Ms. Marvel, one of Pete's teammates, agrees to go on a date with him after aiding her on one of her missions. Despite the fact that she finds Spider-Man to be very irritating at times, the two find common ground in their love of junk food. Soon after that, Ms. Marvel is bonded to the Venom symbiote for a brief period of time allowing for the symbiote to read her thoughts. Venom later hints to Spider-Man that his feelings for Ms. Marvel are mutual. Although they've never officially been in a relationship, the two of them remain very close.
