Anthony Mackie and Marvel Studios, you crafty devils!
Just days after Marvel's epic Hall H presentation at Comic-Con this year, and weeks after he gave interviews expressing his interest in playing Black Panther, Mackie is now in negotiations to play Falcon in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Fantastic news for a project that's sounding more and more interesting with every passing day.
In less surprising news, Variety confirms that Sebastian Stan will indeed be back for the "Captain America" sequel. No big surprise there, as Stan's character, Bucky Barnes, is part of the film's title!
In our Winter Soldier primer, Splash Page's Ryan Rigley described of Bucky's alter-ego:
In the comics, Bucky's cold, seemingly lifeless body, preserved by the icy waters into which he fell, is recovered by a Russian patrol submarine. Missing his left arm, Bucky is revived in Moscow with little to no memory of who he is or where he comes from.
After Russian scientists give him a bionic arm and program him to be a Soviet assassin, Bucky is sent out on a series of covert wetworks missions becoming more ruthless and efficient with every kill. The Winter Soldier (Bucky's codename) is kept in cryogenic stasis while not on missions, which would explain how Bucky would be able to survive so many years without aging all that much.
