While we've seen glimpses of Batman going up against the hulking villain Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" trailers, we're still waiting to see the full showdown in its big-screen glory once the movie hits theaters this weekend.
In an interview with MTV News, Christian Bale talked about his character's first big fight with Bane in this final film of the Christopher Nolan franchise, and what viewers should know and experience in the moment.
"It should be [painful]," Bale said. "This is the first adversary that can physically dominate Batman and we should recognize also that in his somewhat weakened state that this just is not the same Batman that we've been accustomed to seeing before."
In order to film such an important and intense scene, Bale emphasized the necessity as an actor of just giving it all you've got.
"You just have to commit and you have to trust that you're with another actor whose going to commit just as much," Bale said. "You have to give everything at every single second because those are the only takes that can be used."
Bale expanded on some of what he and Bane portrayer Tom Hardy endured during the filming, but said it is all in the name of providing a quality end result.
"When you do give everything sometimes you end up causing pain and you just have to accept that," Bale said. "Tom's a tough guy and I took a few blows as well. It's part of the job. You don't complain about it. We're young. We can take it. You move on and you hope that it makes it really seem believable."
