After weeks, months, years of talking about it, "The Wolverine" is finally happening for real. Hugh Jackman is in Sydney, Australia now to start working on the James Mangold-directed feature, which begins shooting next week.
The Hollywood Reporter has a lengthy feature on the upcoming "X-Men Origins" pseudo-sequel, including quotes from Jackman about bringing the Marvel blockbuster to his home country.
"I am so happy to be home, to be shooting a movie of this magnitude here at home is one of the great privileges I have had in my career," he said. "I have been working for 12 years on the Wolverine character and while the franchise will go well beyond me, it really has been the backbone of my career."
The actor added that he'll retract his adamantium claws permanently "when I stop loving it," which, from the sound of things, isn't happening anytime soon.
"This one has certainly been the most interesting and complex of the superhero characters," he added. "I do take my career one (step) at a time and I feel like a golfer always looking for that hole in one."
Director James Mangold's "The Wolverine" stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto. It's scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2013.
