With phase one already in the books, it's time for Marvel Studios to look ahead at phase two. They're already hard at work on their next wave of superhero films, including "Iron Man 3," "Thor: The Dark World," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and the currently undated "Ant-Man" and "Avengers 2."
Marvel CCO Joe Quesada spoke about all these projects and more in a new interview with SFX, transcribed by the hard-working CBM gang. Speaking about "Iron Man 3," Quesada promised a new and wholly fitting take on what Tony Stark's third solo film should be about.
"It's going to have some amazing surprises," he said. "I don't think people have any idea what it's going to be like but it's a wonderful take on what the third Iron Man movie should be. We have a really unique perspective on it and we're pretty happy with how it's shaping up. [Robert Downey Jr.] has really taken the character to some new and interesting places."
As for the "Thor" and "Captain America" sequels, Quesada said, "The goal is to mine different territory to what we have already … We've been very lucky and fortunate to [also] have these characters enhanced by the performances of these actors."
Regarding the overall goals of phase two, Quesada feels that "Avengers" paved the way for an even stronger roster of superhero films to come.
"It's going to be really interesting to see what happens next," teases Quesada. "But personally I think that The Avengers now enhances the solo movies because it was so successful. Everyone has their favourite moment or character and now it's like 'we've seen what you've got so show us some more.'"
