It's official, boys and girls: Joss Whedon is directing "The Avengers 2."
Walt Disney executives announced the news during a conference call today, revealing that Whedon will indeed write and direct the hotly awaited sequel to "Marvel's The Avengers," the most commercially successful comic book movie of all time and, in many people's eyes, the very best superhero film of them all.
Not only is Whedon back for another round with Earth's Mightiest Heroes, he's making his Marvel in another crucial way. It's being reported that Whedon has agreed to help develop a live-action television series for ABC set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So, Whedon's back at the helm of another "Avengers" adventure, and he's returning to television? Somebody get Weekly Whedon columnist Tami Katzoff a stretcher, I think she's just had a heart attack! Check back with Splash Page and MTV News for more news as it develops. In the mean time, say it with us now...
Big thanks to Marc Graser for the news.
