A new casting development has informed us that Oliver Queen is going to get a visit from a wealthy, mysterious man on "Arrow," which leads us to believe that writer Marc Guggenheim may have gotten his wish about certain DC Comics characters joining the series.
It turns out that "Torchwood" star John Barrowman has landed a role in The CW's new superhero series. Entertainment Weekly reports that he'll be playing a “well-dressed man” who is “as mysterious as he is wealthy … he is an acquaintance of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.” Other than the fact that the character is recurring, producers are staying tight-lipped about the role. It sounds like it's time for the speculation to begin.
EW posits that Barrowman could be playing philanthropist Stanley Dover Sr., but could this be a set up for a much bigger surprise? We know quite a few mysterious millionaires in the DC Universe, and some of them are among the comic book company's biggest superheroes. Maybe Guggenheim was letting on more than we realized when he told IGN that some of Green Arrow's superhero pals could be making appearances "sooner rather than later" in the show.
"One of the things we want to do is roll the show out at the right pace. For the most part, I think we’ve taken the philosophy that things are happening sooner rather than later," he said. "I know as a viewer myself, I’m impatient. I want to see stuff. We’re not going to make the audience wait to see characters, plot twists, revelations. I think running out of great characters and great moments is a quality problem to have, and I just want to have them."
"Arrow" debuts on The CW on October 10.
