When next we return to the realm of Asgard, expect big things for the watchful Heimdall. Idris Elba will be back for "Thor: The Dark World" with a deeper look at Heimdall and Asgard at large, according to the actor himself.
"In the new film we're going to get to know Heimdall the Asgardian a bit better, and we're going to get to know Asgard a bit better," Elba told Examiner (via CBM). "I can't say too much, but the expansion of Thor in his world is going to be huge."
He added: "My part was very small & functional in the first film, but I still felt very privileged to play him -- especially since Heimdall looks a certain way & has a Nordic lineage -- & here I was playing this character and bringing him to life in a different way. It felt quite groundbreaking to be a part of that."
In other "Dark World" news, there are reports that the "Thor" sequel will be shooting certain scenes at the Stonehenge monument in England. It's entirely unclear what Stonehenge will represent in the new "Thor" movie, though perhaps its mysterious origins will somehow be connected to Malekith and the other Dark Elves at the center of the plot.
"Thor: The Dark World" strikes theaters on November 8, 2013.
