Happy Labor Day, everyone! We here at Splash Page want to commemorate each and every one of you for working so damn hard all year long. After all, isn't that what Labor day is all about? In honor of this momentous holiday, we've decided to pay our respects to some of the hardest working characters in recent comic book movie history.
Although these characters may not always be in the direct spotlight, they all share equal, if not more, responsibilities with their respective superheroes. Whether it's designing gadgets or following leads, each and every one of these so called "supporting characters" is vastly under-appreciated for the amount of work that they put in on a daily basis. Which we aim to rectify after the jump.
Lucius Fox (The "Dark Knight" Trilogy)
He's responsible for every single piece of equipment in Batman's arsenal and still finds the time to secretly run Wayne Enterprises while Bruce cavorts around Gotham in a mask and cape. Simply put, there would be no Batman were it not for Lucius Fox. Not only is he fully aware and capable of maintaining all of Bruce Wayne's deepest and darkest secrets, but he's also so brilliant that he created a means of free, sustainable energy for the entire city.
John Myers ("Hellboy")
It's not easy being the new guy at the secret FBI-sanctioned Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. Especially if your job is to keep tabs on a demon with a huge rock for a hand. While this would deter any normal person, John Myers faces said challenge head on. In fact, he doesn't even think twice when the task at hand calls for taking Hellboy's girlfriend out for coffee. Sure, Hellboy is going to be ticked off; but hey, a job's a job.
Detective Hartigan ("Sin City")
Literally nothing will stand in the way of Hartigan and his police work; not his heart problems, not being shot in the back, not being sent to jail, and certainly not being framed for the attempted rape of an 11 year old girl. When it comes down to it, Hartigan is one fantastic cop that always does whatever it takes to protect the innocent. Even if it means taking his own life. Now that's a man dedicated to his job!
Lois Lane ("Superman Returns")
If there's an important story that needs coverage, then Lois Lane is your go to journalist. She'll do whatever it takes to write up a good article, putting her own life on the line day-in and day-out. She's willing to write the hard-hitting articles like "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman," despite the fact that she misses her super ex-boyfriend more than anyone else. Especially when the plane that she's flying in is about to crash into a baseball stadium.
Agent Phil Coulson (Every Marvel Movie Ever)
There's a reason we were all devastated when he died in "The Avengers." Phil Coulson is hands down the hardest working S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that ever existed. Often times acting as Nick Fury's eyes (or eye) in the field, Coulson is willing to go above and beyond to ensure the protection of humanity. He'll threaten Iron Man with a taser, keep Thor away from his hammer, watch Captain America as he sleeps; it's all in a day's work for Agent Coulson. Even in death, he manages to do the unthinkable and finally brings together all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
