We've known for a while now that "Captain America: Winter Soldier" is going to take place in the present day of the Marvel cinematic universe, but what does that mean for Hayley Atwell's "Captain America: The First Avenger" character Peggy Carter?
If Peggy were to stay firmly rooted in the past, her love story with Steve Rogers would end up being a tragedy. We all saw how sad that "The Avengers" alternate opening was when he didn't end up calling her up to let her know he was alive, and that would be their last chronicled moment together.
So how will "Winter Soldier" deal with the time jump in their relationship? There's been some debate about whether there will be a role for Atwell to play in the upcoming sequel, be it in flashbacks or by aging her up. Bleeding Cool recently caught up with her at the premiere of "The Sweeney" and tried to set the record straight.
“I can’t say yet because it hasn’t been officially released, and Marvel are very protective of their franchise," she said.
That sounds very similar to the answer Kat Dennings gave when she was asked if she'd be back for "Thor: The Dark World." She did end up signing on board that film, and we'll guess that Atwell will do the same in "Captain America 2." If we don't get some resolution between Peggy and Captain America, we'll be a bit disappointed.
