Those of you worrying about a tiresome love triangle between Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson might not need to worry so much. In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, it's stated that Woodley's turn as Mary Jane would "be only a very small part in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' but blossoms into an integral lead for the planned third movie as the studio seeks to build to the classic 'Death of Gwen Stacy' story."
Gwen's death was always a virtual guarantee — even Emma Stone is rooting for her character's grisly fate, easily one of the most iconic deaths in all of comic book lore. But based on the THR report, it's hard to tell if Gwen's death would occur in movie two or movie three of the trilogy. Woodley stepping up as "an integral lead" in the third "Amazing Spider-Man" could indicate that Gwen meets her maker at the end of the second film, or perhaps early on in the third flick; it's just too soon to say.
Either way, while it seems like Woodley is all but completely confirmed to play MJ, it won't be the big starring turn that some expected it to be.
