Matthew Vaughn's next "X-Men" movie, subtitled "Days of Future Past," takes its title from one of the most acclaimed "X-Men" stories of all time. But given certain continuity considerations, it's not clear just how faithful the story will be — if it will center on Kitty Pryde and an older Logan, for example.
Two things the comic and the movie will likely have in common, though, are time travel and Sentinels. And that makes us very happy indeed.
Speaking with SFX Magazine, Fox's Marvel creative consultant Mark Millar spoke out on what fans can expect from Vaughn's "Days of Future Past." Considering he described it as "X-Men" meets "The Terminator," it feels pretty safe to say that the mutant-hunting robots will finally get the big-screen treatment they deserve — not just a cameo Danger Room appearance as in "X-Men: The Last Stand."
"Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing," said Millar. "You've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes – it's everything in one film."
All that makes it sound like "Days of Future Past" will need a much bigger budget than what was spent on "First Class," but Millar knows from experience that Vaughn is a man who can make a tight budget work wonders.
"Cost-wise it's going to go up, and ambitious-wise it's gone up," he said. "But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughn made 'Kick-Ass' for $28 million."
