It seems that no one can escape the power of "Marvel's The Avengers," even the world's deadliest terrorist (er, teacher). Mandarin can be seen without his hood at one point in the trailer, and if you pause, you'll see the above image of a tattoo on the back of his neck — a tattoo that looks an awful lot like Captain America's shield with the Avengers' logo right in the middle.
See a closer look below.
Either the ring-clad villain is a closet fan of the third highest-grossing movie of all time, or something else is going on here. We've seen theories ranging from Mandarin having secret ties to the Super Soldier program — or a budding vendetta against Steve Rogers himself — to the idea that this isn't Mandarin at all, but Tony Stark in disguise, with the tattoo functioning as an Avengers locator or some other such device. That would certainly explain the lack of rings and the handgun, both of which seem out of character for the Mandarin we know from the comics.
So, what's the answer? Only the "Iron Man" team knows for sure. We'll find out ourselves on May 3, 2013.
