Ming-Na Wen, best known for her roles on "E.R." and "Stargate Universe" as well as voice work on films such as "Mulan" and "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within," has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming television pilot based on the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division featured in "Iron Man," "Avengers" and other Marvel Studios movies.
Deadline reports that Ming-Na will be playing Agent Melinda May. She's described as "an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can — and has — gone beyond the call of duty." Going beyond the call of duty has left the "soulful" agent "slightly damaged by her combat experiences."
Melinda May is the new name for the character originally listed as Agent Althea Rice, the Cavalry, a character we thought Gina Torres would be a perfect fit for. Ming-Na is a more than welcome addition to the world of "S.H.I.E.L.D.," however.
Indeed, her involvement is a signal that casting is truly starting to heat up on the "S.H.I.E.L.D." front. Shouldn't be long before we find out who else is saddling up alongside Clark Gregg and Ming-Na for the pilot.
