Out with the old and in with the… old again?
But here's the kicker: at the top of the list of filmmakers to replace Vaughn is none other than Bryan Singer, the man who directed the first two "X-Men" movies and served as producer on "First Class."
Deadline has the unconfirmed report, and notes that this wouldn't be the first game of musical chairs between Vaughn, Singer and the "X-Men" film series. For starters, Vaughn was attached to direct "X-Men 3" after Singer left to focus on "Superman Returns." He eventually quit that project and was replaced by Brett Ratner. Later, Vaughn replaced Singer once again on "First Class" when Singer had to part ways with the film due to his "Jack the Giant Killer" commitments. Vaughn even flirted with leaving "First Class" before fully committing to the film.
Should the news pan out as the report suggests, Vaughn would stay on the "X-Men" sequel as a producer, while Singer fills the director void. Furthermore, Vaughn would be staying in the Fox family and the comic book game; Deadline reports that he's lining up an adaptation of his and Mark Millar's comic book "The Secret Service" as his next directorial effort.
Whew. Lots of news to digest there. And here we were thinking that bone claws would be the trickiest "X-Men" news item of the day!
