Agent Phil Coulson, meet your newest recruit: Agent Grant.
Brett Dalton, best known for roles on "Army Wives" and "Blue Bloods," is the latest actor to join Joss Whedon's upcoming "S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot for ABC. According to TV Line, he'll play Agent Grant, considered to be one of the rising stars at the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
A previous casting call described Grant Ward as follows:
Quite the physical specimen and “cool under fire,” he sometimes botches interpersonal relations. He’s a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he’s the kind of guy that grows on you.
How much of that is still intact remains to be seen, but Whedon has wiggle room here: Grant isn't a character from the comics, so he's a blank canvas, along with the rest of the "S.H.I.E.L.D." cast.
Dalton joins a growing cast including the returning Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons and Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz.
There's still one more pivotal role to be cast (if we're going by the previous casting call): Skye, a "fun, smart, caring and confident" woman who tends to win through "wit and charm."
