Marvel returns to the big-screen next summer with "Iron Man 3," but it sounds like 2013 is going to be a dry year for Nick Fury fans.
Samuel L. Jackson, who plays the one-eyed S.H.I.E.L.D. director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, won't have a role in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel, according to comments he made to Total Film.
"I think my next time as Nick Fury is in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.' Because I’m not in 'Iron Man 3,'" he told the magazine. "None of the Avengers are in 'Iron Man 3.' It’s a standalone 'Iron Man' movie."
Jackson's comments jive with what Kevin Feige and others have said about "Iron Man 3" being a No Avengers Zone, and also with the popular consensus that Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. will be prominently featured in the next "Captain America" movie. If April 2014 is the soonest we'll see Jackson as Fury, we'll just have to wait patiently — but one imagines he at least has to have a cameo in the "S.H.I.E.L.D." TV series, right? Or is that wishful thinking?
