Jamie Foxx has officially signed on board for the role of Electro in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," and the man has clearly done his research. During a recent interview, Foxx caught the uninitiated up on the backstory for the Marvel villain he'll play in the upcoming movie.
"[Electro's a] genius electrician-type person and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world," Foxx told Entertainment Tonight. "The next thing you know, he turns it on."
"Electro is a great character," Foxx continued. "I met with the director, Marc Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. ... I think Electro will be an exciting character to play."
Foxx already has had a taste of what that experience would be like. He fueled rumors of his involvement with the project by tweeting on November 1, "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well."
When MTV News caught up with Webb while he was promoting the "Amazing Spider-Man" Blu-ray release, he expressed a lot of interest in having Foxx come on board.
"I would love the chance to work with Jamie Foxx. I think that Jamie Foxx is one of the great character actors. He's a movie star, no doubt about it. But he is a really brilliant actor," he said. "To have that opportunity would be, will be, may be fantastic."
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is due out on May 2, 2014.
