If you're excited to hear the news about Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen returning to the "X-Men" film universe, now might be the time to cool your jets. Though both actors have expressed enthusiasm about working with Bryan Singer again, they also both say that they have yet to sign onto "X-Men: Days of Future Past," despite reports to the contrary.
"I have to say I haven't signed a contract, nor have I read a script," the actor told MTV News during a recent interview. Despite those cautious words, McKellen added this hopeful silver lining: "When Bryan Singer calls, on the whole, I follow."
Assuming McKellen does indeed return for "Days of Future Past," it's very possible that he would share screen-time with Michael Fassbender, the younger Magneto of "First Class" fame.
"Wouldn't that be fun," McKellen said about possibly starring alongside his younger self. "I'd hope he'd enjoy it as much as I would."
McKellen also addressed the original "Days of Future Past" comic books the upcoming sequel takes its title from. He's well aware of those comics, but he also doesn't think the movie will follow the tale quite so literally.
"I don't think it'll be quite as simple as that," he said.
