Sorry, Cap — looks like you won't get that dance after all.
Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in "Captain America: The First Avenger," won't return for the sequel, it turns out. From an interview with the actress over at Timeout: "She won’t, she confirms, be back for the latter’s sequel, which moves the action into the present day."
That's a relatively surprising development, as it was widely believed Atwell would make some kind of appearance in the "First Avenger" follow-up — be it a flashback or a modern-day scene, as hinted at in deleted scenes from Joss Whedon's "The Avengers."
Even if Atwell is out, someone else will be lining up to woo Steve Rogers shortly. Several actresses have been rumored for the leading lady role in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," including "Community" favorite Alison Brie and "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke, among others.
The "Captain America" sequel hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
