How about a little teaser trailer for "Red 2" to jump start the day? Lionsgate has delivered a neatly-packaged, minute-and-a-half teaser that sets up this action-packed and star-studded sequel to be a perfect compliment to the first film.
We open with a shot of a wobbly shopping cart rolling down the aisle of a Costco-like store. Its contents include a mish-mash of home and self improvement items like vitamins, speakers and the denture product Polident and it is being pushed by retired assassin Frank Moses (Bruce Willis), whose run-of-the-mill shopping trip is interrupted by his old buddy Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich) who laments the fact that Frank hasn't been working.
"You haven't killed anyone in months!" he proclaims. Frank responds that that's a good thing and that he is retired. Unfortunately for Frank, it seems that he must once again come out of retirement in order to defend his life, which according to a phone call from a fabulously-dressed Victoria (Helen Mirren) who calls in the middle of an assassination in a bathroom, has officially been put in jeopardy.
The rest of the teaser showcases some car chases and shoot-em-up action between dueling assassins, more of Mirren looking great in gorgeous clothes and introduces a few new faces like Byung Hun Lee (aka Storm Shadow from "G.I. Joe"), Anthony Hopkins and Frank's apparent former love, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.
It's all really fun actually, particularly the bromance between Willis and Malkovich's characters. I'm officially looking forward to this one.
"Red 2" is set to hit theaters on August 2, 2013.
