Can you stop practicing your Ben Kingsley-Mandarin impersonation for a moment? RDJ is talking.
Robert Downey Jr. did an epic interview with Entertainment Weekly, and the third installment of the five part series on "Iron Man 3" partially covers the work he did with our current favorite strangely voiced bad guy, Ben Kingsley.
According to the RDJ, the Mandarin doesn't just steal that trailer we watched on repeat a few months back; he steals the whole damn show!
"Sir Ben is probably going to steal the movie," Downey told EW. "There are a lot of contenders who may, but right now he's probably at the top of that list."
Downey expected the capital "A" acting that Kingsley naturally brought to the role, but it was the more improvised scenes that really got to him.
"He came in as, obviously—speaking of training—as such a technically proficient instrument," Downey said. "And then what proceeded to happen was the release of more vintage, old-school Favreau [improv] stuff with a Shane Black twist on it. It was kind of frightening to witness, I'll tell you that much."
Though Downey and Kingsley weren't familiar before the shoot, the two actors found a kinship because of their previous work with director and famed dinosaur theme park owner Richard Attenborough. "We hadn't worked together so we shared only Lord Attenborough, and yeah, of course, there was a connection. We took some pictures together to send Dickie, which must be the strangest visual for him to see—the two of us playing the bad guy and the good guy."
"Iron Man 3" opens in theaters on May 3.
